Regards,

I am a rider who has always loved the Daytona 1200 and finally came accross the one I wanted to buy. Its a 1995, black with D&D pipes and less than 4,000 miles. It looks like it is brand new and I cannot wait to spend time on it.

Triumph's are a new brand to me and was hoping to learn more about this bike through you guys and your experiences with the model.

Does anyone know the quantity of these bikes that were made?

I would like to make this a tourer and am interested to know if there are bags (Hard or Soft) that people have had good experiences with? I would like to take every precaution to preserve the paint.

Are there issues I should look for, or easy changes that everyone makes to make the bike or its ride better?

Any suggestion or direction is appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Nice bike. Check back through this forum. Theres loads of info on the 1200.

If you need any specific info just ask.

Regarding luggage. Oxford soft luggage is good stuff.

I have Nonfango hard panniers on my 1200. Nonfango are out of business now so its firms like Kappa or Givi. The Givi stuff is good but the rack needed to mount their panniers is fugly.

A beaut! There's probably more in Europe than here but I may be wrong, the other 4 is the Trophy - different cams. I would say there's less than a couple of thousand here in the states, defintely a keeper.

Welcome! My D1200 (black) just turned 18K miles. I love it. It's big, heavy and powerful. A real locomotive! The bike is relatively rare. I'm not sure about production numbers. I know my dealer only got one during the years it was in production! I've kept mine stock but others here have done mods for touring. Check out www.rka-luggage.com I don't have any of their stuff but it looks like quality luggage. Mine goes in for regular service next week and two new Dunlop D208's. I see you are in NY too. Whereabouts?
Enjoy & Ride Safe!

nydesmo welcome,
The T3 Daytonas are heavily over engineered and apart from normal maintenance issues are pretty much bullet proof. Any kind if engine failure is very rare. I've got 57,000+ miles on my 96 1200 with no major issues. The only weak link in my opinion was the suspension, great at first but over time will become pretty soft. I've owned mine for 8 years and have slowly upgraded the suspension, brakes, riding ergos, and turned it into a sport touring bike. There is a ton of info on the mods we've done to our D12's within this forum.
One question though, how'd you get your bike up on the roof of that house?

Nice looking bike!

To make this into a sport tourer, the first item of business needs to be moving the clipons on top of the triple clamp. It is a simple mod that will make a huge difference in long haul comfort. Or, if that is not enough, I have a set of ProItalia, billet clipons that will raise the bars three inches and move them back one inch.

The next item is a Corbin seat. (Which I just happen to have one for sale....) A Corbin will help much with the numb bum.

Personally, I use the Triumph panniers with a Cortech tail bag. So far they have worked great for me and have not scratched the bodywork at all.

On the subject of paint, I was in conversation with Sprint Manufacturing here in the U.K. when the subject of touch up paint came up. To match the Triumph black paint of fairings etc. they use BMW black paint code 086. Available from any good motor factors, and cheaper than a tin with Triumph on it into the bargain.

David

p.s. check out daytonacharlies photo album. It should keep your credit card in trouble for years! :-D

Thanks guys for all your wishes,

The bike is on a ramp, going onto the second floor of a building.

Roy, I am in Manhattan but spend alot of time in Cold Spring which is almost right accross the river. Do you know of good roads around there? I am always looking ... Have you driven 301, Cold Spring to Carmel? Look forward to the chance of riding with you.

Hinckley, I am interested in the seat and you can email me at nydesmo@yahoo.com.

Cheers,
Greg
