I know this is purely speculation, and a subject that has been kicked to death, but do you think Triumph is going with a 1050 Daytona or an 800 Class GP bike for 2007 season? My bet is on the 675 being bored/stroked to 800 or so to be used in the GP when size goes from 990 to 800 next year. Can Triumph pull that kind of HP from this 675 design?

Triumph is too small a factory to go Moto GP.

Besides I'd rather they spent their money developing bikes for you and I rather than wasting millions chasing a dream.

+1 and I think the 1050 would be great in a sportbike! Please just lighten it up a bit. MH

With the fantastic racing this year in World Superbikes it would be cool if Triumph put together a WSB team rather than Moto GP. Foggy Petronas currently run triples but that looks set to end after this year. Cheaper than MotoGP and would keep the larger engine on the production bike.

Oh please, don't stop. Kick it some more... :hammer:

Neither. Though some still can't accept it, they've outright said there's not going to be a 1050 Daytona.

I'm intrigued by your thought of an 800, and have no doubt they could get all the HP out of it that anyone would want. But I think Nickwiz is right...it's not Triumph's thing, and I too would rather see them continue putting their money into practical riding machines.

I agree. Keep the money going out into the real world bikes. Seems like Triumph is getting their designs and marketing more focused in the last couple of years. WSB would be cool. I would just like to see a company of Triumphs size upset the Moto GP cart once. Thanks for the great feedback folks!

Personally I'd like to see a 1050 preferably with more traditional styling.

The current fashion of overly-angular Battlestar Gallactica
Bikes leaves me cold

Headlights dont have to look like some Cathode-Ray atom smasher.Round headlights look clean.

If that sounds like a move backwards, consider the buzz generated by Ducati with the Sport 1000

Modern Retro certainly hasn't hurt Mustang,Mini Cooper or Harley Davidson for that matter

I'm with you Rocker. Good flowing lines can make a bike look like it's going fast when it is standing still and nothing beats a round headlight (except two) for good illumination without that pesky angular cut off above which there is absolutely no light. I think the challenge is to keep the bike modern and taking good judgement on the potential benefits compared to the complexity added. BMW is moving down the technology at all cost path I think Triumph is more focused on starting with a motor and a couple of wheels.
As for the new big Daytona - Triumph only has a few options
1. A big little Daytona
2. Something to compete with the Japanese liter rockets
3. Something that leans more towards the Sprint
4. Something with somewhat better performance than the current 955i with the whole package greater than the sum of it's parts and looks so good you just gotta have one (see #1).

I asked the Regional Triumph Rep that came along with one of the Daytona 675 that were making the rounds if a "Big" Daytona was in the works. He commented that he didn't know but that the current engine could be bored out to over 800cc should they want to go that direction....
