I noticed this issue coming up on rare occasions last year. I would be riding and I would release the throttle to grab a handful of brake. The bike would chug a time or two and die. Usually I was still rolling and I would just pop the clutch back out and bump start as I was rolling to a stop.

Tonight I took her Tilly out for her first run w/ the new exhaust and now it happens at EVERY stop sign/light. Is there something I should be looking for to adjust?

Normal rest idle seems to be around 1400 warm, 1800 cold. If I crack the throttle open quickly and release, it will do the same thing (chug n die).

I do have Tuneboy now and have not yet loaded a new program, but I would like to fix this issue first.

My '02 did this for awhile after I changed the pipe, but the cause was it being too rich at idle ....at little fuel trim adjust from the tune boy should cure this for you......does the bike smell rich at idle?

that does bring up something else I was noticing. The TPS decay rate seems to be slower than a Harley. Is there anything I can do to adjust this a bit? I'm thinking it is possible that since it is decaying so slow, it still is gushing fuel in and choking the motor out.

Have you checked for any error codes ? this is where that tune boy can pay for it's self very quickly. Could be a sensor has failed. Have there been any mods of the intake system? the vacuum leak is possible, but usually they aren't a problem unless there has been some disassembly of the intake. :???:

Nope, no error codes.

Dealer service changed spark plugs that were fouled out, and I just stuck a K&N on it, but that's as far as the intake tract has been disassembled to my knowledge. Guess I'll go back through it again this weekend and see if I can find a vacuum line disconnected or a seal not fitting tight.

is there supposed to be a vacuum line going to what looks to be a vac. fitting on the side of the tank? If so, where does that run to, maybe that's it. There was no line attached when i pulled the tank for the K&N.

If th fitting you are talking about is on the lower right side of the tank by the fuel lines, that is the pressure regulator and it does NOT need a line on it especially one hooked to vacume. I still say hook up the tune boy and see what it says.

the common answer on this would be to adjust your CO level with your idle trim adjustment using tuneboy. The reason for this is simple: changing the pipe changes your flow dynamics significantly enough to require adjustments to compensate.

A proper remapping will solve it, and give you a few more smiles per gallon to boot.

Notice I did say a PROPER remapping.
