Ok I know this has been talked about before but lately I am running up around 220-240, and it is only 70 degress outside. I do notice a little bit of coolant dripping from the bottom fairing but only does it right after I park the bike and then when it cools there is nothing. But it only takes about a minute of riding and it is up in the 230's and I just wanna make sure something isn't wrong, is this normal or not?

In 70 degree weather my 05 never gets above 200 and normally runs 175 to 185. I never get coolant spills. One thing I did was put a half bottle of Water Wetter which seemed to keep the temps down a bit. I put the other half bottle in my S3.
Is your fan coming on?

Doesn't sound right to me either. When cruising I am about 180. When I hit the hills and always at higher revs I run about 190 195. And the only time I see anything over 200 is when I am in traffic. Stopped. When just sitting there the most I seen was 225 but rare, the fan kicks in and will stay around 218. The coolant is could be a little overflow from it getting hot. It is still under warranty(or is it not?), I would have the dealer take a look.

yeah the fan comes on but it stays over 220 still, and it isn't cruising it is going through town about 40-45mph with a few stop lights, but it still seems like it is getting too hot to me. It is still under warranty, I only have 1000 miles on it. I think the little bit leaking out is from overflow. Mad, you said water wetter, can I add that to coolant, or is it water that you have in yours. Any other help would be great. Oh and also I can't take it to the dealer right now because the shop has shut down for the time being for legal (they owe money) reasons. Until they go to court I will have to drive an hour to the nearest dealer.

Just add the Water Wetter to your existing anti-freeze already in the bike. If you getting some overflow now, then you may have to drain a little anti-freeze to add the Water Wetter.

You know guys, I tried the water wetter thing. When that didn't work I read the instructions (yes, I know you're supposed to read those before you put it in). On the back it says that it works better if you use just plain water instead of antifreeze with it. So I replaced the coolant again. Still nothing. I'm thinking that it just runs that hot (180-190 hwy/220 at the stoplight).
I'm going to take mine in for its 12,000 mile service this week and I think I'm going to see if I can't order a new thermostat with a lower opening temp. Anyone ever tried that?

let me know because I can't even go a mile without it getting hot, and then at stop lights I get up to 240. I think I will try the water wetter and see if that helps, thanks for the replys

What RPM are you turning in town? If I run around in first (it does 50 in first you know) gear the temp comes up pretty quick. I know, I know....it just sounds sooo cool.
My '02 tends to run 5-10 degrees hotter than most. 180-190 at highway speeds at 70+ ambient.

sprocket, I try to run lower rpm's so it doesn't get as hot but even at like 3k rpms it is still getting hot. How hot does yours get in town. I ran the highway today for a couple minutes and it was 200 or so but in town it gets to 240

240s hot man!!! That would freak me out. I can't help but think something's up there.
Could it be something with the oil cooling system? Have you checked your oil lately?
