Hey guys
Im looking to buy my first Daytona. I really love the look of the gen 1 model... but I understand that the 2001+ model has about 20extra hp, forged internals and a newer type of ecu amongst other things.

I was wondering if I were to purchase a 2001+ model (sssa ofcourse); it is possible to swap the seat / tank / rear cowl etc for the gen 1 (btw no need for front fairings - naked)

Im sure many of you guys have probably done this so sorry for the newbness..but any pointers would be appreciated.. have tried the search function not sure where to start..

2stroker, With some adaptation the rear cowl can be fitted, but the frame is lacking front mounting tabs for the gas tank. Welding on heat treated aluminum is iffy and will need to be performed by an expert welder.

The model you're referring to is the second generation D955i which is a 2002 model that was introduced in 2001. Some were released early for the British market and referred to as 2001 New Style.

The ECM is the same as the later first gen D955i, just given additional tasks. I've had two Gen2 and one Gen1 D955i. The extra 20 HP isn't really felt between the two generations, but the Gen2 will pull away from the Gen1 in a race, er scientific comparison. The Gen1 doesn't rev as high and works fine with it's internals. I give the nod to the Gen1 for low to medium revs torque delivery.

If you really want the Gen1 look the best models are the 2000 and 2001, which have evolutionary improvements.

As Brad says, the tank most likely no go (and indeed does not fit perfectly over the 02+ airbox anyway)
I would imagine however you could probably make up a bracket arrangement that bolts to the forward frame mount, rather than weld on the tabs per the stock 97-01 arrangement

The complete tail section will fit along with the subframe
You would need subframe, seats, battery box/inner fender and plastics.

The front mountings of the tail bolt into the tank, so those would not be utilized if mating to an 02+ tank

Much appreciated. I might just keep an eye out for a 2000 model, of there are no huge performance gains by going 2002+
