Gearing
I have a 2002 Triumph Daytona 955i CE and stock gearing on it is 18/42. I've discovered the past owner put a 43T rear sprocket in it, I'm thinking of putting a 19T front on to try to get some of that top end back again, the bike is torquey as hell the way it is now so I dont mind losing some of that for some good high RPM pulling on the highway. Any ideas/suggestions on this? Will the engine and the power be happy with this? The bike has a modified airbox with a K&N and TOR carbon can if that helps

If you would rather have the top end gearing and lower RPM's go for it. Not sure if you would need a longer chain though. You could always just go back to a 42T rear, but I'm sure it's more expensive to do so. I always save my gearing change decisions for when it's time for chain/sprocket replacement, but that's just me.

I always check out the ratio changes, top speed etc on: http://www.gearingcommander.com/
For reference here are the final ratios: 18/42 = 2.33 // 18/43 = 2.39 // 19/43 = 2.26 // 17/43 = 2.53
2.26 >> More Top End Speed >>
2.53 << Faster Acceleration <<

To my mind the ratio difference between stock [2.33] and what you have at present [2.39] would be fairly minimal.

DF, More than likely your engine can't pull top to redline as it is. A 19T C/S sprocket will make it less likely. The most popular non OEM gearing caters to the strong mid range these engines have; SSSA combos include 18/45, 17/45, 17/43 and 17/42, DSSA combos include 19/46, 18/46 and 18/44.

Will the 18/46 fit with the stock chain?
Thanks

Nope. I think 112 links were ordered and then trimmed to fit.

If the stock gearing is 18/42 on the SSSA, i'm running 18/44 on mine, stock chain.

Ok, thanks Brad.
I've got a 18 front on right now, so I'll go ahead and bust open the 45 rear I ordered last week.
Ahhh, all the little 'problems' we're so lucky to have!
