Idle speed

Curious where your bike idles? Ever since I've had mine it seems to idle real low once fully warmed up. I mean it lopes just above stall, but has never stalled on me. When I check the tach it's around 1K RPM's. It almost sounds cool like a cam'd muscle car. Does this seem right?

Lately mine has been a lil lower than when I first got it. Before it was close to 2k, put it in for a C service and did an R/R upgrade, coolant flush. And it was more consistant and even, but always first start of the day would start real low, kinda choppy working its way up to warm up idle after about 12 seconds. Then it would idle around 1600-1700. But now seems to be around 1200-1400. And I don't have any tune yet which I'm sure that will affect it.

sardinecan, Target idle speed is 1200 RPM +/-50 RPM. Tachs aren't always (usually?) spot on, my '04 read ~100 RPM low.

mine idles around 1100 on the rev counter when hot but doesn't sound like it's getting close to stalling.

Ok thanks for the feedback. I really do think it's a little low. How would I adjust this, is it all controlled through software like tuneecu? I know the previous owner(s) tinkered with the tune. He had mentioned having it at the dealer and they loaded a tune which took away power. I have some dealer paperwork that shows a tune loaded - not sure if it specified which one.

How is your actual twist throttle? Is it too loose? Too much play before it actually revs the engine? You could try adjusting that right out of the throttle. Follow the lines out of the twist throttle, look about an inch left of the front brake reservior on the throttle cable and the adjuster should be there. I wouldn't go too much though, if you feel you really need to adjust it.

you would have to use tuneecu or similar to adjust the idle speed. I don't know that this is a separate adjustment or part of the tune that gets downloaded.

you can also use tuneecu to reset the tps - the point where the ECM sees a closed throttle and to test the IACV. It will also show which tune you have loaded already.

you need it, really.
