2002 Triumph Daytona 955i maintenance questions...
Hey guys! First post...
So here is my question: I have a 2002 Daytona 955i with (if my memory serves me correctly) 24,000 miles. I bought the bike from my dad about two years ago. He said he "took care of everything" maintenace wise when I bought it. I've put less than 1,000 miles on the bike since I've had it and it hasn't been on the streets in over a year.
My question is what maintenance should I expect to be doing? I told him I was thinking of changing the oil and he said it was a waste because I probably haven't put 500 miles on it since I've had it (two years) and synthetic oil doesn't break down like conv. oil does.
What does everyone recommend?
Oil change?
Coolant change?
Air filter change?
Spark plugs?
Fuel filter?
Thanks in advance for your help!

At least oil. Worth checking the air filter too. The rest? Depends when it was last done.

I change oil every six months of 5000ks which ever comes first....
As condensation will bugger oil and its cheaper to replace that do rebuilds..
If your not sure of when things were done assume they need doing, just do them....
Do the basics first Plugs, air and oil filters,oil......
Fuel filter is internal and depending on the quailty of fuel you have it should be ok,if you do the fuel filter it will also be a good time too see how much water has got into your tank

You're on track. If you don't have record of when something has been done last you may as well do it. At least it will be peace of mind. I have the same bike and that's what I'm doing.

I'd change the oil and ride it.......
I picked up my 02 CE a couple of weeks ago. It had 4400 miles on it and hadn't turned a wheel in a long time. The dealer changed the oil and filter, fitted new tyres and cleaned and lubed the chain, changed the brake fluid. Steering bearings were adjusted and greased. It goes great and runs like a charm with 10 year old air filter, fuel filter and plugs. Coolant probably wants changed but that can wait til winter.
If you really want to maintain it properly you'll want to strip and grease the linkage, swingarm bearings and steering head bearings and change fork oil too.

Wow, 4400 miles is like a new bike! I wouldn't have sweat anything either except like you say oil, brake fluid, etc.

yeah apart from some corrosion around the rad and oil cooler and layers of dust it's pretty much brand new!
a 10 year old bike and the only service it had seen was the 600 miler.....

I would suggest trying to give it a run from time to time and drain/change the fuel. Everything can start to get "a bit old" and become unreliable if left untouched for a long time, like filters, grease, lubricants, fuel etc.

Thanks for the responses everyone! At this point I intend to at least change the oil. I have a factory service manual and it looks very straight forward. Where does everyone buy their oil? I have all kinds of AutoZone/Advance Auto Parts coupons but they don't work with oil purchases. Do you use "original Triumph" oil filters or do you just use a FRAM filter from an auto parts store?
"Marks Daytona" - I do start it up and run it till the engine comes up to temp once a month. I assume that's better than nothing.
