No surprise.
Look out for a 975/999 replacement in 2007/8

Yeah, I cannot say I'm surprised. It's been rumored since the 675 was rumored. I'd put my money on a 975 Daytona.

However, I am a little concerned regarding this comment made in Torque:

Triumph could have developed an all-new replacement for the 955i but the big-bore Daytona has simply reached the end of it's natural life, given that the lighter sharper Daytona 675 has arrived to take Triumphs sporting triple theme in a sublty different direction.

I don't see Triumph getting rid of the litre class bike. They want to stay competitve I am sure in both mid class and big bike. I think it was probably easier to develop the 675 to see the public reaction, and now they see it is a positive, they can concentrate on making a better litre class bike.

I reckon they've decided that as they are not going to compete head on with the other big factories they might just let the big daytona die. The big sports bike market is declining too at least here in UK as we wake up to the fact that they are way OTT for our current roads traffic conditions etc. besides which rows of identikit sports bikes at every meet I go to bore the arse off me!

Can't wait tosee where Triumph put their energies a new Tiger? More BHP for the bonnie line of bikes ( that'd be nice) whatever it'll be a darn sight more interesting than the, mine is a tiny bit lighter and faster than yours competition that we've been stuck in year after year since the mid 80's.

Remember this time last year we all figured Triumph would bow out of the 600 class because there was no way they could be competive.

Triumph does not abandon established market share.

I'm just hoping that Triumph will bring out a new better version in a couple of years time (975 anyone?) when I will be ready to change my bike.

The 675 looks fantastic and if the write ups are anything to go by is fantastic too .. BUT .. and it's a big but, it's tiny, I'm not at 6'3" and 17 stone so it would be like riding a suppository. I can ride the 955 all day without too much discomfort (after about 8 hours my neck gets a bit stiff). On a cramped 600 size machine I reckon I would have to get off after a couple of hours.

In Torque Triumph say the new Sprint does everything the Daytona does and maybe better but I find the seat's too low and the riding position too upright for my tastes.

Come on Triumph, we are not all midgets so don't abandon us, lets have a big sports bike for big people. :hammer:

I feel slighted by Triumph. I now have a beautiful 05 black Daytona that is almost worthless.
