Poor Start and low power
Hey guys,
I'm nearly a broken man (or a broke one) I have had my 98 t595 for 4 months now and it always suffered from a poor start normally needing a small twist of the throttle to kick off and when she was running I always thought she wasn't as quick as my previous t595 (same year). In a attempt to find the issue I brought it to triumph who said I needed the throttles balance and Valve Clearances done which I did and got it fully serviced, but its only a bit better and still has the start issue.
I have ECUTune and no error codes and have MAP 9862 loaded and Idle Fuel trim set to 6.3 and tried doing a TPS reset but it never goes green (the little TPS light) and now I think I have a TPS problem. When I got the bike I noticed that the TPS% was at 80% when the throttle fully open and now its only 65% in fact it was 69% this morning. Is there anything I can to to diagnose this without dropping another thousand bucks into it?

What does the voltage read and % read on TPS when throttle is closed? (you can read both on TuneECU diagnostic screen)
80% sounds like a lot, mostly would expect right at around 70% for WOT
If your TPS voltage or position is not tracking consistently, you may have either a bad TPS or the wiring to it.
You should have about 0.6V and 0% (set by zeroing the TPS) at closed and ~ 4V/70% when WOT - as you open it to any given position, it should hold a consistent voltage if the throttle is not moving. You can test all that without the engine running

Thanks for the advice Decosse, I can't remember the voltage I will have to check that again. Do you think that a bad TPS or tps wiring would cause that poor start?

if TPS does not actually report the throttle position, then ECM would be looking at wrong part of the map table.
Get the numbers and report back before you consider replacing the TPS
Open and close the throttles multiple times and be sure the values, (whatever they are) remain consistent at either end of the range.

OK, so after hooking her back up to the computer I have the screen shots of the bike and the TPS % reads a healthy 69% but the same again today she wouldn't idle when cold and on my way home today after giving her some gusto while overtaking she had a slight loss of power and the engine management light came on for about 10sec and went off again, so something aint right...
Decosse, in the pic you will notice that the TPS light at the bottom of the screen is grey but even when the engine is running this never goes to green or any colour for that matter.

0.51V is below that you should have at the 'closed position
I'll confirm later today what the minimum is but typical value should be 0.6V
I think it is 0.6 +/- 0.05V but need to check the spec
You would need to adjust the position of the TPS to get it closer to that value.
Was there no error code posted after the light came on?

Cool thanks, that may explain the poor idle when cold and some of the other issues. The code has popped up a couple of times but only for about 10sec and it never stores any error when I connect to ECUtune

Checked the spec on that - on the T595 there is no declared value - or indeed adjustment
But the spec on the later series is 0.55 - 0.65 V
You might see if you loosen up the screws if you can get the voltage up a little by moving it slightly and re-locking it
Regardless, do a TPS reset after you adjust.

Thanks again Decosse. I think it may be that or possibly poor connections or a most likely a dodgy fuel pump. Im gonna check the TPS and connections this weekend but Im starting to lean towards a dodgy pump as the culprit.
