My 2004 Daytona was a dealer demo, and it already had the Triumph high carbon fiber pipe on it when I bought it, with about 2000 miles on it.

Today, I put the stock chrome Triumph can back on so I could mount the passenger pegs and take my girlfriend for a ride for the first time. Surprise! It runs better with the stock muffler. Throttle response is smoother, no hesitation when rolling on the throttle at low rpm's. The dealer assured me that they had downloaded the program for the high pipe when they put it on, but I'm starting to wonder now.

I wish I knew an independent shop I could take it to in the Seattle area. I don't have any faith in the two local Triumph dealers. Any suggestions? I'd rather not fool around with a Power Commander or Tuneboy, but I guess I may have to.

There have been debates for years about the benefits of the high performance cans and new downloads. If you really want the best performance you probably should get a Tuneboy. I think a lot of the perception of how good a new set up is depends on your riding style on the street. If you took it to the track you can probably go faster. When you're doggin' it in traffic or watching for Johnny Law you probably only can tell how the torque has changed... usually not for the better at low rpm.

Hey oldyeller. I just got my 04 Daytona this weekend. It was also a demo. had 1200 miles. Got a killer deal on the bike and they gave me the extended warranty half of what tey normally charge.

Now, when I was at my dealer, great guys, they recommended to me to get the Jardine high exhaust. AND they said I could get the power commander, but then I would have to take it to a place that can tune it with the Dyno. BUT they also said what 95% of their customers do is get the aftermarket exhaust and then the dealer downloads a new map to the computer, and people are happy. They also told me not to get the whitebrothers because they said that trying to tune that thing is a pain. Maybe with your aftermarket you just need the dealer to put in the racing mapping to the computer?
