April "Visor Down" on Triumph
The April issue of "Visor Down" (available at Borders in the U.S.) has two interesting articles on Triumph.
First, identifies the T595 as a "classic" whose used prices may have bottomed and may ascend in the future. Complete review of ride and mechanicals. Engine and ride is the star, and the clunky transmission (although strong) and known sprag weakness a minus.
Second, article is short with focus on the success of Triumph in riding out the recession and increasing its world-wide share of motorcycle sales from about 3.5% to 4.5%. The weak pound has helped financially and made UK prices much lower than comparable Jananese motorcycles. Triumph are now 4th in sales in the UK passing Kawasaki. Overseas sales are bringing in more profit due to the weak pound. Naturally this is all good for Triumph owners as good finances fund new and improved existing models.
Article also says that a new "hardcore" Tiger with 21" wheels has been seen in development (this must be off-road focused). A redesigned Sprint ST is in the works and several Speed Triple test mules seen. Lastly, that a "heavily revised" 3-cylinder 1050cc engine is being developed.
I'm thinking that 2011 should be a good year.
