Daytona 900 bar mods

Getting ready to drop the $$ for Convertibars for my '96 900.
I keep looking at the stock arrangement and wonder if I can move the existing bars to the top of the bracket, to the top of the tubes where they extend above the top bracket. At least as an experiment before I spend the bucks.

Anyone try it and can the bars be properly fixed to the top of the fork tubes? It appears that I may have to raise the tubes slightly to get full contact. How much is too much?

I put a set of '02 Daytona bars above the yoke on a '94 D1200 and found it a great improvement, you do have to be careful about lock to lock clearance on the fairing. Raising the tubes in the yokes will quicken steering and cost you some stability but the Daytonas seem to be biased towards stability on stock settings so you do have some room to experiment.

Thanks. I had considered some aftermarket bars that were slightly longer, hoping to avoid fairing contact, but with retaining most of the original control cables/lines.
