Clicking noise when trying to start bike.
I know this is probably so easy as to be stupid but it is annoying me in the same way as when you can't remember someone famous's name.
My 2001 Daytona 955i wouldn't start, flat battery over the winter. So I charged it up overnight. The following morning I started it after a couple of pulls and left it running till it got up to temperature - should have gone for a ride!!
Woke up the following morning and it tried it's hardest to turn the motor over - really struggled. After a couple of goes with the starter button and no joy (very upset as in leathers ready to go) it was back for a charge up again.
Charged over night and put the battery in this morning and now it just clicks rapidly. and not a hint of starting the bike.
Apart from what suggestions probably should be made!! any ideas. Is there a way of testing the battery (new last year) to see if that is the problem or could it be more sinister (keep reading about sprags??
Any help would be gratefully received as it is sunny outside for once.

pizzaman68, This reads like the battery, for one reason or another needs replacement. Was the battery on a maintainer during the off season? When it's running again you'll need to check that your charging system is working.

Thanks Bradtx,
I'll take the battery out and get it tested - has been very cold here - well for the UK - and not been left on a fancy charger over the winter. Annoying that it's only a year old tho.
I'll post a reply to this when all fixed in case it helps anyone else.
Thanks again.

Spring is now officially here
Bought a new battery, fitted at the crack of dawn, bike fired up beautifully, rode to work and now sitting here smiling like a Cheshire cat. Who cares about cold fingers when I feel this good.
Thanks guys.

pizzaman68, Please check that your voltage regulator is working properly, don't want that smile to go upside down.

And buy an optimiser. Get one of the waterproof leads that stays on the bike so it is a simple thing just to connect it up every night without removing seat. All 4 of my bikes are always on optimates every night and I never have battery problems.

We don't get your cold weather down under where I live but I have two bikes and use an Optimate 3 to keep the batteries in tip top shape.

Hello everyone.
I am having the same problem with my 955i (1999 model), word for word beside when I replaced the battery it's still just clicks rapidly and seems to drain the battery! Not sure where to look next, any ideas lads?
Glad yours is up and running m8
Cheers

Could be a problem with the starter solenoid. Try shorting it out with a screwdriver. If it starts, you need a new solenoid.
