While picking up some items at the dealership this past weekend I overheard a couple of the salesguys talking about an article on the internet that stated 2006 would be the last year Triumph will make the Daytona due to poor sales.
Can anyone confirm this?
I searched around on the internet but could not find anything.
I realize this is 'hearsay', but there may be some truth there?

Relative to new bikes being introduced, and the demise of existing models, everything is just a guess right now - whether someone acts like they know or not.
Triumph went to the wire last year on whether or not they were going to introduce the 1300cc triple unofficially named the "Busa Beater" and shelved it at the last minute.
If you look at what has been introduced in the last 2 years, you can guarantee that whatever hits the street with the Triumph badge will be badass.
As a post script, the speed four was very limited production numbers for 05 with the statement from TMA that it was discontinued. Received notification that limited numbers of 06's will be available. Who knows, maybe the rumoured Daytona 680rr triple will result in left over 650 power plants being dropped into the speed four.
I had 2 of the top tech guys from TMA here the other day, like everyone else, they aren't talkinking, but one of them said to pay close attention to the dealers conference in September - he said everyone willl be blown away with what's going to hit the street in 06.

TWO magazine recently elluded to the fact Triumph will be releasing an 800cc triple sportbike with all the 'bells and whistles'; Radial brakes, petal discs, USD TiN cartrige forks etc.
Once again, brillant marketing on Triumphs part: It's release will coincide directly with the MotoGP bikes getting restricted to 800cc's. :upthumb:
Sorry guys, it will have a DSSA...............................

> TWO magazine recently elluded to the fact ...
With all due respect to a fine publication, assuming you mean "alluded," it's only a fact when it actually happens.
(Unless you meant "eluded," which is what facts sometimes do to motojournalists.)
Right now, rumors are also running fast and furious in other publications about a 680 triple, and it scarcely seems likely Triumph would do both...but it's not impossible We'll just have to see. The real facts are only about a month and a half away.

Did you mean "real" facts, as opposed to unreal facts?

Based on ebay I'd say the 955i Daytona are selling very poorly. I bought a new 02 this month that had been posted for 5 days and I was the only bidder. I've been watching for several months and every Daytona I can remember failed to bring the minimum bid. But Triumph is focused on making great bikes that sell. I can't imagine they would aggressively go after the classic, sports touring, adventure touring, naked and 600 market segments and ignore the pure sports end. What ever they come out with will be great. Maybe not what Japan is producing but probably something you can enjoy more than 6 months before all the MC rags dub it a slow, heavy, pos compared to the coming new model.
Watch for me, I'll be the old guy on a mellow yellow 02 with the quaint DSSA. If the budget allows my support truck well include a masseuse specializing in 55 year old butts. :yayyy:

I've long believed the 955 engine had reached the end of it's development cycle and look forward to the new engine with much anticipation. As good as the engines are at present punching them out to 1050 is so blatantly a swan-song. But to expect a GP bike
is unlikely - but wow wouldn't it be nice - the Aprilia and Petronas failed for whatever reasons and I hope I'm surprised if Triumph succeeds where they failed. But my understanding is 2 engines, a 680cc and something bigger - which I doubt will be called a Daytona - but what? Typically Triumph have used past names, I wonder maybe - Daytona GP or The Riccy(?) or Hurricane......

As opposed to fantasy "facts," such as campaign promises and other wishful thinking. ;-)

If that's all the new 1050 really was, then maybe so. But it's got a new crankcase, new gearbox innards, new valve head--and at least some of the 2006 955 engines share those, so they are fundamentally an "underpunched" version of the 1050, rather than the other way around. The 1050 is the beginning of a new development cycle, not the swan song of the 955's.
There's no reason to think they're going to trot out all the latest R&D prototypes this September, of course. They've got to be planning ahead for the new EU requirements in 2007, keeping performance interesting for the customers while complying with tighter requirements. Wouldn't make sense to tip their hand too much this year.

I maybe wrong but I would imagine the 'new' crankcase might be for the extra cc and the forces related to that. The under punched bikes are that way because of Triumphs modular manufacturing philosophies - the valves to take advantage of the new volume and the gearbox to deal with related increased forces and general improvement, to go along with the fore mentioned. These new engines are all later cousins in my mind of the T300, just improved.

Well back here in SA, I bought a demo bike, which was 10 months old, for roughly two thirds the list price of a new one. That already says a lot ?
From searching for aftermarket goodies, there seems to be little locally. The guys says there are only a few in SA, why they keep nothing.
I also think sales of the bike is poor. If they lost some lbs, gained some bhp, things might change, but otherwise that must be the main reasons for not selling.
