Help needed pls.

hello all

My Daytona 955i (1999) has been standing for around 2 months and has been connected to a trickle charger. When i turn the key the dash lights come on but wont start. When i hit the starter i get nothing at all, no noise, click or any other light beside dash lights. Also the temp guage is reading high with the ignition on or off but it does rise a little when i turn the key on. I hope its not but I think it might have something to do with the alarm as I cant put it in service mode.

i had new chain fitted last summer and after that the bike did cut out a few time when riding but other than that the bike runs fine. The bike has just over 20'000 o it on and is in vgc.

any help at all would be much appreciated, thanks

Jason

Couple of preliminary questions:

Do headlights work - are 'normal' intensity?
(do you have separate light switch on yours, or are they on permanently with ignition?)
If you have headlights on, do they go out when you thumb the starter switch?
Is your neutral light on?

Hi DEcosse

I do have a separate light switch but no lights come on at all besides the dash lights! When I hit the kill switch the dash lights go off.

Neutral light is working.

Cheers

Jason.

Jason, When the ign. is switched on do you hear the fuel pump prime? Does the horn work? With the number of circuits involved you may need to check the battery connections.

Brad

PS I missed the alarm item. That can be another can of worms.

Since you have indicator lights (incl the neutral light) your alarm connector must be fine - the power circuit for ignition goes through the kill switch, then through the alarm before going on to power the ignition circuits - fact that kill is giving visual indication of the same effect that alarm interlock would have, says alarm interlock is indeed complete (good)

Yes - but if you switch the headlights to 'on' position, do they come on?

If that answer is no, you have either a battery problem or a broken wire to ignition switch - most likely the former

Do you have a volt meter? Check the battery volts

Do you have any jumper cables? Hook it up via jumpers to a car battery and see what happens ..........

Thanks for all your help and suggestions and I am pleased to say I have now found the fault.

The clutch cable had ben damaged whilst the steering lock has been on and there is some kind of bad connection. When manipulating this wire, bike is working as normal. thanks again for your time.
