Not personally, but have seen report of others who have done this.
With the 97-01 the forward bolt of the rear fairing screws into an embedded nut in the tank. If you use the wrong (too long) screw in this location, it will puncture the plastic through to the fuel cell .
Not good!

could be that your connecter to the fuel pump (which is amazingly plastic) has a puncture on it cause it to seep through everytime the bikes fuel pump turns on.

You may need to replace them, that might be the answer to your problem.

take off your fairings and check and see if anythin squirts out

Gas leak

I just recently went through the same thing, it was coming from the lower connector near the fuel pump. The part was $20 at the local dealer, and yes it is plastic. Check with you nearest triumph dealer, they told me on certain bikes there was a recal on this issue, (my 03 955i wasn't part of the recal, but yours may be.).. Its reaslly easy to fix, don't over tighten it, and be prepair to see alot of gas when you disconnect it. If you have any problems finding the part you need, or a dealer near you, feel free to let me know and i'll find a way to get it to you from my dealer here on Long Island.

midlifecrisis955i, I wonder if it can be plastic welded from the inside? Is the embedded nut turning?
