converting from Daytona 955i to Speed Triple

Hi guys,

I had a big of a low side stack the other day while I was on a ride... hit a bit of sand and lost the front end.

Due to finances, I'm considering whether or not to forget about repairing the fairings/headlights and just sticking a Speed Triple light on the front.

Is there more to it than simply bolting the new light on?
What does the Speed Triple use for air-intakes? I noticed that the Daytona has a ducted rubber intake from the fairing.

If I change the top yoke to a Speed Triple item and put some flat bars on it, am I likely to have trouble with brake lines, etc. reaching?

Thanks

Mat

2000 vintage, right?

The instruments bolt onto the triple clamp on a Speed Triple - they rotate along with the steering.
So the bracket for the headlights bolts to the steering head and the instruments bolt to the triple. If you don't use OEM brackets/triple clamp, you would have to come up with a way to mount the instruments to the triple - if it does not rotate with the bars, the bars will most likely interfere with them.

You will definitely need longer brake lines for sure with upright bars - you may be OK with the clutch & throttle cables (possibly need some re-routing)

The S3 airbox has some short trumpets

If you go to BikeBandit, you can put in the year/model for your Daytona and same year S3 and see the difference in the parts.

I picked up a 99 Daytona with the intention of doing the same, but the one I bought is just to nice to chop. 13k on it and full service history. I've never owned a sports bike up till now and find the riding position cramped and awkward at first. I figure if I could lift the clipons an inch it would make a big difference in comfort. The more I ride it the more I enjoy it. I'll persevere with the standard set up a little longer.

The first rides are a pain in the ass... and in the wrists and back, too. Ride it a couple of times and youīll get pretty used to the position, itīs not that bad - actually I find it rather comfortable for higher speed riding. If you canīt, then think about changing something.

So does the instrument panel bracket mount to the underside of the Speed Triple top yoke? I don't need any other brackets other than the main big black one do I? I guess I'll find out on Monday when the new top yoke comes in.

I just picked one up from Triumph on clearance

Everything is doable. I guess it dep[ends how far you want to go.

For a straight forward "stick a headlight on" conversion its should be pretty straight forwards apart from the longer cables and brake lines to deal with the higher bars I would imagine it will be an cheap and relatively easy job

well I'm going for the full on conversion to make it look like an original speed triple.

I've got all the front end bits with the exception of the Speed Triple radiator and air box.

Just waiting on the headlight bracket to arrive from the UK

Can anyone shed some light on what to use to get the top yoke nut off?
