Bought 2002 955i, have questions.

Hey everyone, Im new here. I got this 02 Daytona 955i and I need some help repairing a few things.

The bike runs, shifts, and rides straight. It was dumped at low speed on dirt. The right side fairing is scratched and cracked but the cases, tank, etc.. are all good. Are there things I should re torque or straighten in the frame or headstock? Should I balance and align the tires?

The rear brake wasnt working when I got it but I vacuum bled both brakes and they work good now. I noticed it takes a few seconds to start the bike when cold like it is hesitating. When revving the engine the headlights dim a little. The speedo reads 0 MPH but RPM works. Not sure about ODO. Should I get a new battery?

The bike was sitting while the last owner was in the military. When I flushed the radiator, it was bad. Real bad. There was some rust, dirt, grime, etc... Im thinking about getting the radiator acid dipped to take out the corrosion and rust. Is this a good idea?

The motor oil looked decent but I am going to change it and the filter along with other things the bike needs.

I need a way to lift the wheels off the ground so I can adjust the chain. The exhaust is in the way and there is no frame supporting the lower part of the engine. Is there a way I can jack up the bike without spending a fortune on stands?

I really need help refreshing this bike and get it road worthy. Are there other things I should do while I am working on the bike for the winter and while it is apart?

Welcome EYEdROP

Radiator - just flush with clean water and fill with a good coolant mix - should be fine.

Speedo - you could have one of two problems - either the rotor magnet in the speedo drive (on left side of front wheel) is broken, or a common problem with 02/03 was in the ECM tune which disables the speedo - the tell-tale sign of the latter, is if you ride the bike for a bit, then stop & re-start the bike & the speedo works normally after re-start. If the latter, then you take the bike to dealer to have them update the ECM with a later revision tune to eliminate this issue. In either case the odo will not record.

For chain adjust you can do that with bike on the ground

Is this double-side or dual side swing-arm model?

It is double sided swingarm. The radiator was flushed well and and filled with glycol based antifreeze and distilled water.

One thing I just noticed is a friend sat on it and I looked down the middle of the bike. It dosent seem straight and the front tire is off center with the headlights. Not a good thing.

Have a look at the bracket that attaches the fairing to the headstock, look for cracks in the paint if it doesn't obviously look bent. If it was a bent frame causing your headlights to visibly not line up with the front wheel, I very much doubt it would ride in a straight line. Chances are it would also pretty much refuse to turn either left or right depending on which way it was bent. Hope this is of some help.

Your headlights/fairing more likely to be off than the wheel I suspect
- take off the fairing and make a more realistic assessment.
