Help Gas Leak!!!!

I have gas leak on my 2001 955i Daytona. It is the two small valves on the left rear of the tank. They had rubber washers at one time but the washers have turned to mush. Can I use Teflon Tape or will the gas eat it? Is there a special washer that goes on these valves? If there are washers what are they made of ? If you klnow any answers to this problem please get back with me asap. Thanks

Hate to tell you but those rubber washers seal absolutely nothing.
The way the tank works is, there are two tubes running down inside the tank for the vent & scupper drain.
Those nipples screw into the inside of the tubes, and have no exposure to the gas. I'm not really sure why the rubber gaskets are there - can only imagine they are to stop from over-tightening the nipples.
If you have gas there, it has to be coming from inside the tube (unless there is a crack between the tube and the base of the tank right at that spot)
In my case, the tube had a pinhole inside the tank on one of those tubes - I would notice it would leak when tank was filled, but once below about half-way, it stopped.
I opened up my tank and working through the pump opening, 'painted' epoxy (JBWeld) over the tubes to seal them.
It has now held for over 4 years.

It's possible that gas was just leaking down the tubes from an over-fill situation - if it is consistent you may also have a leak in one of the tubes.

thanks for the info

I believe the washers kept the valve from being screwed in the whole way. I used teflon tape and removed what was left of the washers it seems to have worked. I did fill the the tank rather full the other day. I didn't realize you can over fill them?. I do appreciate the feed back.

It's not a valve - just a pipe nipple.
