Unhappy Engine Management light any ideas?

Hello All

I had a horror the other day. My friend rode the bike out of the garage with the charger cable still attached! It tugged on the loom connected to the fuse box and the Engine Management light came on. I checked the cabling and it looks fine, I then replaced any fuses that apperaed to have been damaged and reset the light by disconnecting the battery. It was then fine again.

After a forty mile ride I pulled over and noticed the temp going up as is normal as I had stopped, the fan then kicked in at 103 degrees as indicated by the dash. Then I heard a distinct click (like a relay but not sure) under my seat and the Engine Management light came on. I rode off gingerly concerned but it seemed to ride ok and all revs were available but it felt quite lumpy and on overun was alot more burbly and poppy than normal and overall did not feel as smooth.

Any ideas what may have happened? Is this a common fault etc?

Really grateful, I wanted to see if there was anything I could do before I take it to the stealers! Thanks all Ron

Sorry I should have mentioned its a Daytona 955i 2002 (DSSS Version) no mods except a K&N filter

Thanks

This is urban legend - you cannot 'reset' the light by disconnecting the battery.
If the light went out, then it was an error that does not conform to the 'three warm-up cycle' convention.

You probably should pull the codes that caused each of the MIL lights to trigger - a lot of auto-parts stores will do this free - just have the connector ready for quick access - which means ability to remove the seat quickly.

Hi Decosse

Thanks for the reply. I think it probably coincided with 3 restarts! I'll run it into the shop when I get a moment and ask if they can hook it up to have a look.

Cheers
