Buying first T595, need advice

Looking at a 1998 T595 with just under 8,000 miles on it. I'm familiar with the things to look for when buying used bikes in general, but I was wondering if there was anything daytona specific that I should look for when buying a bike of this age and mileage?

Bike has been in storage for 5 years, and the owner wants $3k for it so I think that's a good deal. It was his fathers bike, who passed and that's why it has been in storage.

Early T595 suffered from transmission problem - a weak 4th gear
That is resolved by engine number 57946; engines before that are suspect but not necessarily an automatic failure pending.

If been in storage - does it run?
Typical storage problems (non Triumph specific) would be the fuel pump & injectors. Tires probably should be replaced if they're that old, regardless of how 'good' the tread looks - so negotiate at least $250 for that. You may also need to figure for a new battery.

Hi D'Ecosse,

Thanks for the response. Yep there is going to be some costs associated with this purchase, but they are built into the price of the bike. New tires, battery, and a general service inspection/fluids change.

Now engine number...is that synonymous with VIN? Or where would one look for the engine number?

Thank you.

Engine # & Vin # are diifferent.
Here's the engine number location - look just inboard of the clutch actuator arm.
