Need help with 97 T595! (Altinator?)
Hello fellow triumph riders =]
I have came across a problem. My bike died while i was riding. I had to hitch a ride with my GF to take my battery to a local motorcycle store, they charged it for me. I then installed the battery on my bike and rode it to the store to see what was wrong. My friend, whose the mechanic at the store, said that my alltinator blew out and that it wasnt charging the battery as i rode it. He hooked up a device that checked the volts that went through from having the engine on and revving the throttle... He diagnosed that it wasnt charging the battery.
He mentioned something about the stater regulator or something like that needs to be changed.
Can anyone elaborate on this problem? hints or ideas and suggestions??
The bike is currently at my GF's house because i cannot ride any further without the risk of it dying on me again.

Aceman_831, Welcome to the forum. Would you please put the model of your bike into your profile? It'll help us in the future.
The '97 T595 uses an automotive style alternator with an internal voltage regulator. An automotive supply store may be able to test your alternator and regulator/rectifier. Bike Bandit shows a R/R, but there maybe less expensive alternatives.

First off, check fuse #7 in your fuse panel under the rider seat.
Could be as simple as that.
That will be the only 40A fuse that is in there.

I'll second that, got bitten by the same and thought my alternator was dead.

Ive come across yet what seems to be a an even bigger problem. I opened the fuse box and have discovered that my 40 fuse was melted. Since i had an extra 40 fuse, i replaced it.
Here comes the next problem...
when i turned on the ignition and tried starting it, i heard a click, similar to that of when a spark makes a sound. after that sound, nothing turns on anymore. so when i turn the ignition, my hud shows nothing. so i have diagnosed that it is definately an electrical problem. what do i do now??
i have read something in another forum (i believe) that there was a recall on t595 bikes for their electrical malfunctions... And someone had mentioned something about a wire being melted and this person had replaced that wire but had wired it directly to the battery to solve their problem...
Can anyone give me ideas of what to do next? besides taking it to a shop of course lmao, id like to try and fix it myself =]

hmmm, ran another test. consisted of jumping the bike with my car battery (the car was of course off duh!) lol and everything came back on. I managed to start the bike using the jump method after a couple of tries!!!! but the real test was to turn the bike off and try again.... no luck.... lol, so im not sure if the battery(bike battery) does play a part in this situation since the bike was gettin jumped from my car battery??
quick question: would it have made a difference if i had a new battery in my bike?
The motor store said my battery was fine, but i have my doubts with it.
$74 bucks for a new battery. tempting to go out and get one really quick.... any suggestions?

If it started off jumper cables and not without, definitely the battery
Since your battery was not being charged with that fuse blown, re-charge your battery and it should be OK
Otherwise get a new battery if it won't recover after charging.
Use the 2A max charge rate when charging a motorcycle battery.

solved my problem =] it was the battery!!!
i learned more about batteries through this experience.
The battery wasnt keeping charge because the electrolyte levels had been low (when i bought it) and low for too long. This damaged the plates that were in the battery. I did manage to fill the level to where it was supposed to be when i bought the bike but i guess it was too late. definately a dead battery waiting to happen.
So i bought a new battery and installed it and it is doing great =] i ran tests on it and concluded that definately my alternator was fine =]
woooh, lucky me heheh
thanks everyone for your help, this post now solved =]
