Electrical Fault
Hi, I am new to the site so i hope you don't mind me jumping straight in with a problem, I have a 1995 Dayton 900,there is an electric fault on the bike,When i turn the ignition key in the lock, the Red ignition light comes on but the Green Neutral light does NOT come on,and the engine will not start or turn over, but if i lift the gear lever a bit with my foot without putting it in gear the green neutral light comes on and the engine will start,as soon as i let the gear lever return to it's normal neutral position or try to put it in gear the engine just stops and only the red ignition light is showing again. I would appreciate any help with this problem, thanks in advance. Fred

Neutral sensor sounds like its not working. Is the kick stand down when the engine cuts out when you let go of the shift lever?

Definitely problem with the neutral switch - your work-around in the short term is to raise the side-stand first: that is the second interlock that applies when bike is not (or thinks it's not) in neutral.
Even when you fix the neutral switch, the bike will still 'die' if you click it in gear with the side-stand down. That is effectively what is happening now.

Shouldn't have needed the side stand switch Fred.
From described effect that one was working as it should.
You should find the neutral switch on the left side of the engine, down by gear shift pedal.
Item 24 - look for the harness wire attached to it
Fit new sealing washer (25) when you do.
