Hello,
So I took my new Daytona out for a spin after work, riding about 50 miles in the mountains. As I got back I noticed the smell of gas coming from
the right side. I pulled the rigth black side cover of and noticed gas dripping from the hose assembly that is visible
next to or slightly underneath the tank.
This might hopefully be only a minor thing such as a screw that is not tight.
Did anybody have thios happen? Need to call the dealer tomorrow.

Greetings,
Hans

There has been a recall on 2000 and 2001 Sprint ST/RS's and Speed Triples for bad sender unit. I'm 100% sure the daytona uses the same tank/frame/guts as the rest of the 955i engine bikes (although it makes a kick-rear 35 more HP with it ).

The problem is with the fuel sender - the level sender I believe or it might be the down pipe to the Fuel Injectors. Its very common and the replacement parts do fix the issue.

Does the Daytona have a fuel gauge? The ST list is full of people complaining about the behavior of the gauge.

Welcome to the site and don't worry - TOA should take care of this very quickly for you - its a known issue.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I will bring it to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. My suspicion was that there might be just something loose, but I did not wnat to go through the hassle of removing the tank since the bike is brand new.
Regarding your question: the Daytona does not have a fuel gauge, it just has a warning light. I was told that this light comes on at varying fuel levels !?

Best,

Hans

Yes, the dreaded stupid fuel level sender.

What will happen, is that you should figure out how far a tank will take you ( maybe plan to go run out of gas - cell phone and a waiting friend with a gas can or some other method - ride up a hill with a station at the bottom? ) :-D

Then, once you know that - thanks to the trip ODO you'll have a refrence.

The ST list people seem to get 200-220 miles before they have to start looking for fuel. Thats a detuned daytona engine though - 120hp not 146 or whatever the Daytona is cranked up to.

Best of luck and don't get too stuck if your experimenting with mileage!

I will definitely not experiment when riding through the Mojave desert
The method of action that you outlined is the one I was planning on using.
I would think I can get close to 200 miles
since the tank is holding more than 5 gallons. I get 200 miles iwth my VFR
and a 5 gallon tank.

My bike doesnt have a fuel guage either. I cant understand why any manufacturer should fail to include such a necessary and cheap item on an expensive and otherwise beautifully built motorcycle. Crazy - I run out of fuel 2 or 3 times a year.
