Towing a bike, anyone used this?

Hi All,

Looking at options to tow my Daytona 955 behind my truck. I was looking for a trailer and then came across this?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Uni-Trail-Motorcy...3%3A2|294%3A50

Anyone have any experience with one of these things?

Ronno, This and others of similar design have been around for decades. They may be good for the emergency tow home. I wonder if the transmission will be properly lubricated without the engine running as even in neutral I suspect there are some transmission parts turning, at least the output shaft. (There are several cars/trucks that can't be towed very far for this reason.)

Brad

PS I use a U-Haul motorcycle transport whenever I need to tug one of the motorcycles. Price is very user friendly.

Used that same trailer for DaBrew's Sprint Brad!

That tow hitch idea is interesting though - hadn't seen that before.

other than across town, no way. Along with lube issues, how about rear tire wear and chain rubbing blocks on the swingarm.

Wow that "dolly" is interesting to say the least. You wouldn't catch me towing my bike like that! Just imagine if you had to back up! Has anyone ever backed up a short wheelbase trailer? It's very interesting at times, just imagine that short bike wheelbase. You'd be jack knifed in about 5 feet.

Search your local classifieds, you can find used utility trailers for pretty cheap.

Yeah it looked suspect to me.
I couldnt see myself strapping down my 955i to that thing and going around the corner to my shop, let along on a longer road trip.
Which is why I asked.
Id much rather have a proper trailer.

Used to have one. I towed my '69 500 from Philly to Orlando on one (1,000+ miles). I did however remove the chain. They're great for around town short hauls. Or an occasional use like I had. The biggest advantage is that they break down and can be stored in a trunk. You also don't have to register it like a trailer. Like it has already been said here, they jack knife like nobodies business.

If you decide to get one make sure it has a removable ramp. They're useless if you can't life the bike by yourself onto it.

Sorry DaytonaRonno but your link in the OP didn't work for mois.

This is what I use to tote mine to the track and back, I had it custom built.

Cheers

Would one of these cause any sort of damage to a bike for a trip <200miles?
Also would I have to take the chain off?
