Next Bike - Daytona 955???
Hi
New to this forum.
having passed my test 2 years ago, i bought a Tiger 955 (05). I have fallen in love with this bike, however,i am really hankering towards something else a little sportier to add to the stable.
I like the look of the ZZR1400, Zed1000, Yam XJK1300 , however, i really cannot get the Daytona 955i out of my head. I love the looks of these bikes, particularly in Yellow and the addtional Union Jack on the nose really supports my pride for British made goods.
Whilst the Jap Bikes are capable, they are, nonetheless, Jap and therefore one on every bend. (The Tiger has 'distinctive' looks and always commands attention-even if its just for them to say *** is that!!)
Question - how good is this Daytona 955i bike? What can i expect out of it? Is my heart ruling my head here. Any constructive comments welcomed, and advice as to the most recommended model.
Thanks all in advance,
Harley

Take one for a test ride if you can and then see what you think. We all love them.

I second this. Try and take one for a ride and see how you like it. For me, it's the most comfortable large displacement sportbike I've ridden.
No regrets here buying one brand new out of the box.

Sweet engine delivery, wonderful sound, compliant chassis. May not be 160 hp + but do you need it? 955 is a typical Triumph: GREAT road bike.

I was looking for a bike that would be a good fit between my 675 and R1200RT, and considered the Tuono, FZ1000 or something like that. Right about that time my friend had to store his 955i at my house, while moving. So for kicks I decided to take if for a spin, just to see what is was like compared to my 675, never thinking that would be the bike for me, too much sport for what I thought I was looking for.
So during the ride, it came to me like God peeking through the clouds "this is the bike for me" and long story short, I had my own 955i in the garage 3 days later!
This bike is everything my 675 is not, stable, super powerful, comfortable, capable and a joy to ride, in fact I can't even ride my 675 on the street anymore, considering making it a track only bike, for me it just can't compare to the 955i.
I've owned 15 bikes to date, and the 955i my most favorite bike of all times!
I agree test ride one, maybe you'll have one 3 days from now.
All the best,
Michael

How much time do you spend spinning the engine above 10,000 RPM? If the answer is "most of the time", then you might enjoy a Japanese four more. If the answer is "occasionally" or "seldom," I'm betting you'd like a 955i more. I've ridden a CBR1100XX and a CBR1000RR, and neither of them made me consider a swap for a second. I'll take the torque, snarl, and individuality of the 955i. The top end of the 955i is more than I need (but fun!), and the single sided swingarm is very nice icing for the cake.
I can comfortably ride with my father in law's Electra Glide, or any of my other friend's sportbikes. I love that.

I own the CBR1100XX Hide rode and it's too much bike for me. Never thought I'd admit that...ever. It was my dream bike when I came back to riding. It's extremely fast, scary so, but it doesn't handle like my Speed Triple. That being said, the triple is neither as fast nor does it handle as well as a Daytona.
For real world situations on real world roads, the Daytona is hard to beat. I've also followed Hide on his Daytona with me on the CBRXX. His bike looked so much easier to ride at 8-9/10ths. Get a Daytona.

Which year were you considering?
Gen 1. 97-01 (5 year run [97-99 called T-595)
Gen 2. 02/03 (2 year run)
Gen 3. 04-06 (Pretty much the same bike as the Gen 2, with a Ninja "style" headlight)
They all look a bit different, same in many ways though. I like the fact that the 02/03 was only made for 2 years (really 1 1/2 years). It took me a while to fall in love with the headlight

thanks for the replys guys-the typical passion for this bike definately comes through. I have booked a test ride and looking forward to it.
Will keep you posted - one other thing, what are they like to take around a decent tour?

Harley, Might depend on your idea of touring. A long drone down a main highway where piling on milage is paramount is not it's forte, but they can be accesorized with baggage, bars and saddle to do the deed. Put one on country lanes that connect to where you want to go...no problem.
