Help me out guys,
Ding dang thing won't fire, turns over but no fire.
With the kickstand down, you have to hold the clutch lever in.
Kickstand up, don't have to hold the clutch lever.
Switched out the sidestand relay with the one off of my bike and it worked on my bike.
Here's another variable, when I press the starter button with K/S down and clutch lever out, it will eventually turn the starter after a couple of presses. The light dims when I press the starter button as if it is sending a jolt of juice somewhere that won't let it go any further.
I am about to give this back to the owner and tell him to go see the dealer here in town.
Neutral switch maybe?
You guys got any ideas?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Lurch.

Refresh my memory, did you check the pick-up sensor on the right side of the engine? That has gone bad on both of my Daytonas.
The battery level is good right? It won't fire with a low battery even though it will turn over.
Any other thoughts guys?

Yeah, checked the pick-up coil, first thing I did. My Trident has a new one also.
I removed the plugs and checked for spark with a fresh battery and had none.
What's throwing me is the deal with the clutch and kickstand. That's what makes me think there is a gremlin in there that is hiding.
THanks for your help.

If you had the factory Ignition System Tester you would have it figured out in no time. You could take it in and have the dealer test it to locate the problem, then fix it yourself.
Sounds to me like a bad switch/connector/wire. All lights, signals, brake lights, etc work? It will turn over but not fire..........hmmm.....Try pulling the rightside switch housing apart.......inspect the wires for breaks etc. and with some "contact cleaner" spray the starter and run switches... there should be some small holes on the case....or spray directly through where the switch lever enters the actual switch. Have you ckecked as many connections as possible?
Those two switches obviously are high use pieces and are subject to the elements also, so should be inspected.
And most importantly, I would suspect the "ignition switch"... Many a problems are due to the rats nest of wires that run to that and the contacts inside, another high use item, obviously!
And, when trying to start it you or a helper can also gently wiggle the wiring harnesses going to each "ignition" component, if you have'nt already tried that, might be able to locate a bad connction that way. It worked for me when my tach stopped working on my S3 and when my ignition switch went south on my Bonnie.

Sounds like the neutral switch.
The engine wont start if the KS is down, the engine is in gear and the clutch is out. Sounds like you have eliminated the KS switch and the clutch switch seems to be working the way it should.
The bike seems to think it is in gear (hence the faff with the KS & clutch) but I would agree that there is a problem with the neutral switch or the wire running to it.
Maybe a trapped wire which is draining to earth? Check the resistance at the neutral switch. If you can, try to start the bike with the switch isolated.
Hope this helps. Electrical gremlins are a pain in the nads!

As I understand it, the neutral light switches on these things are notoriously prone to being unreliable!
On my 95 Daytona, IFF she is in neutral, sidestand down or up, the "system" will let me fire her up without pullng the clutch in. However, if the neutral light is not on, or she is VERY hot, and doesn't think she's in neutral, its no go.
sounds like a neutral light thing to me. Have you checked the switch for continuity and operation open/closed?
