Gas Cap Almost Impossible to Remove

2010 Tbird, I dread getting gas because it takes a tremendous amount of strength to get the cap off. Anyone else experience this? Any cure? Any alternatives?

It can be tough. It does loosen up after time. I just made sure that I took the cap off while still wearing my gloves at first. Now it doesn't matter and the cap comes off fairly easily.

do you feel its a vacuum problem or to much friction from the rubber seal ? are you pushing down hard enough when you turn it. try a little grease on the seal.

Mine was the same for about the first maybe 10-20 times i fueled up. Not every time, but occasionally. i'd say it happened about 5 times. then it loosened up and has never happened since. If yours is happening a lot you may wanna spread a little oil on the seal like you do on an oil filter. Not sure if that'll work, but it's a thought.

Mine has loosened up a bit. Still best to open while wearing the gloves. It is just like the America was. If finally got better, but you really feel dumb sitting at the gas pump with your friends around you you're struggling to get the cap off.

Aside from wearing in and getting easier, pushing down while turning is the only solution. I probably wouldn't have minded it being about a 1/8" higher so you could grab it easier.

Ditto what Thatch, dazco and others have experienced. Mine was somewhat difficult at first, but over time it loosened up a bit. I don't even think about it now.

I would like to get one of those "pop up" gas caps, though.

It is a vacume problem.

Heres the cure

When putting the cap back on spin it until it stops. Twist until it clicks once then stop.

any more and the vent holes are blocked. Thats what the dealer told me anyway and it works for me.
