heated grips vs. heated gloves ???

Hi all,

The daytime temps have plumeted into the upper 20s'F where I live but it is still sunny and dry. I'm looking to keep my hands warm and was wondering if anyone here has independantly tried both heated gloves and heated grips. Both options are pricey and I want to get it right the first time. Rumors from the internet so far:

Heated gloves: Pro-Better heat distribution, Con-bulky and fussy although some battery powered gloves look promising.

Heated grips: Pro-Always on the bike, Con-heat only your palms.

Any insight appreciated, thanks.

Well from experience on my shopping bike which is a kawasaki z750s, I have heated grips on that. They are damn good, but just bought some muffs which plug onto the bars and with the heated grips they are just fantastic. I can wear my thin summer gloves inside, keeps all the wind off you and its gets lovely and warm in there! Cant comment about heated gloves but this for me is superb.

Only prob with the Tbird is the mirrors, you have to cut a hole in the muffs for the mirror stalk. I dont have that issue on the z as its faired so the mirrors aren't on the bars.

Thumbs up Grips vs gloves

Heated gloves can go with you as in the car to anouther bike etc heated grips stay with the one bike.Heated grips work well with those bar muffs you find in the atv section at Canadian Tire there allways on sale at this time of year due to hunting season and they come in camo.

Heat

I've had both heated grips and heated mittons. I had the heated grips on a Honda Nighthawk 750 but when I traded it in on the 06 America I started using heated mittons. The mittons I use are not connected to the electrical system on the bike but instead use a "D" size battery in each mitton. The grips were pretty good but the side of my hands away from the heated grips were still cold. The mittons heat all around and the body heat from the fingers and hand help, my hands and fingers don't get hot but I don't feel the cold. The company I bought them from also have heated gloves that also use a "D" battery. I ride year round in all weather, the America is the only vehicle I own.

I too was once looking into heating options, but have decided that if it's sooo cold I'll take the car!

But while I was researching, I heard:
HEATED GRIPS
+ Always on bike
+ Easy to operate
- Heat only palms

HEATED GLOVES
+ Warm all hand
+ With little amount of instalation, can be used on more than 1 bike
- Cables
- When sweaty/smelly, you can't realy wash & dry the insides of them

Leave the pork pies for now - get the sausage rolls while they're hot!
