Windshield Buffeting Survey

Trying to decide whether or not to get the factory screen with buffeting being my biggest concern. In trying to get to the bottom of this, can you please list your current setup and let us know if you're having buffeting issues? My contact over of Calsci had a look at the setup on the Bird and said the best thing you do to fix the problem is add the lowers, but I have yet to hear from anyone who actually has them on the bike. If you would please share the following:

Screen - (Summer/Mid/Roadster)
Lower Deflectors - (Yes/No)
Buffeting - (Yes/No)
Amount of Buffeting - (1-10? Just take a freakin guess)
Helmet - (Brand/Style)

Screen - Roadster
Lower Deflectors - No
Buffeting - Yes
Amount of Buffeting - 5
Helmet - Scorpion EXO 700
Height 6' 1"

Last week my Triumph Dealer let me try out a Shoei RF 1000. I didn't notice any difference

Also keep in mind that a few people have the Windvest and like it.

I have the roadster screen
No lower deflectors
Buffeting not much/ maybe a 2 or 3
Full face helmet
I don’t like the tall screen at all I am going to try to see if I can get a glass co. to cut the roadster screen down to the summer screen height or just buy the summer screen and put the other one on E bay.
A little buffeting doesn’t affect me but I hate looking through the windshield rather than over it.

trapper - at 5'11" I would think you would be looking over the screen. At 6'1" my screen could be a few inches higher.

Sitting down, there should only be about a 1" difference between us. Perhaps you have more height in your legs and visa versa for me.

Screen - (Roadster)
Lower Deflectors - (No)
Buffeting - (Yes)
Amount of Buffeting - (3)
Helmet - (Half helmet)

I find that the buffeting is more of an annoying wind noise than wobbling my head around. I'm 6'1 and I just look over the screen nicely so it's the right height. However, it seems nice and calm when I lower my head and look through the screen. I have ridden a road king with a full screen and it was quiet as can be so it would be nice to find a solution.

Well the Bird showed up this morning along with the accessories which includes the roadster screen and deflectors. I'll post a full report once I get the stuff installed and spend some time with it.

Well...

Screen - Roadster
Lower Deflectors - Yes
Buffeting - Yes
Amount of Buffeting - 3
Helmet - Nolan N42
Height 5'8"

Even a 3 is enough to be annoying, the screen is coming off. I really just want to get the wind of my chest so I guess I might try the Windvest as suggested. I don't mind a little breezy, especially here in Central Texas.

Summer Screen

Screen - (Summer Screen)
Lower Deflectors - (No)
Buffeting - (Yes)
Amount of Buffeting - (5) Sometimes, depends on windspeed that particular day
Helmet - (3/4 helmet)

Interesting to hear that others are having the buffeting even with the Roadster screen. I was tempted to change to a taller screen, but that doesn't sound like a viable solution either based on other's comments... Wonder how changing the angle of the screen would effect the flow? and how might we do that with the QR mount?

I moved the lower mounts to the inner holes, but that didn't work - the bottom of the windscreen hits the bracket before reaching the relocated mounts.

Screen - (Summer Screen)
Lower Deflectors - (No)
Buffeting - (Yes)
Amount of Buffeting - (3)
Helmet - (3/4 helmet)

I had a windvest on my Softail Deluxe and had to remove it as my glasses would bobble on my head once I got over 45 mph. Same with my Streetglide Batwing fairing, made my glasses dance at anything higher then 55 mph. I don't get the bouncing glasses with the summer screen until I reach about 85 mph... So far my best of the three screen mounted bikes mentioned here for me.
