Sudden engine cut off

Hello guys,

After lots of waiting I was finally able to convert my Swiss driver's license to the Japanese one thus alowing me to ride my Speedy legally now.

I went for a ride a couple of days ago and after about 15 minutes my engine just cut, no ignition. I though it was the kill switch and by switching on and off a few times the engine went back to life. I happenend 6 or 7 times on the highway so I decided to exit and call my staff to pick me up.

Has anyone of you ever had a similar problem?

I want to add that once the engines was warmed up, the idling wasn't really stable. I think I need to adjust the carbs a bit (I installed the British Custom performance pack; exhaust, K&N intake and big jets). After waiting a bit the bike was starting normally but when I laoded it up in the truck it seemed to stall quite easily. Could it be a defective ignition?

If any of you encountered a similar issue could you please point me to the right direction? I'll check all options though but maybe you guys can help me save some time.

My Speedmaster is a 2005 Carburetor model.

Many thanks in advance!

I sse you have probably sorted the problem now, which is good news :smile2:

I just like the idea of ringing your staff to pick you up..... perfect arrangement :laugh2:

KingKustomJapan, don't have any personal experience with what you describe but it does sound electrical. As it is quitting and not just loosing one cylinder after starting and running you may want to search for pick up coil (or crank position sensor) and ingiter (CDI) problems.
You don't state how many miles are on the clock but there have been some heat breakdown issues with the igniter (not the best location for it) for some of the earlier models. If so the TTP replacement has gotten good reviews and cost less than OEM.

Thanks for the contribution guys.

Indeed it was my Tank breather valve that was dirty and got stuck in the close position... I'll even add that was fortunate as I was on my way to Gotenba for Super Gt tests (I work as a fuelman/ assistant mechanic) and the day I was supposed to return it was snowing! My bike actually saved me a painful trip in cold rain and snow... Haha!

I had a 2007 T100 and it ran like a Swiss watch, usually, however it could go puurfectly for 5000 miles and then just cut out, roll to a stop, hit the starter again and either do 50 yards or 500 miles no probs, then do it again. The misses had same year T100 and did the same, so I checked all earth wires, all handlebar wires for crimps , same in headlight and nothing wrong. I then removed the ignition box and discovered some corrosion on the plug that fits to the igniter. After scraping the crap off the connector plugs on each bike and spraying with inox the bikes never missed a beat again doing well over 6000 miles. Once it actually stopped 6 times in 3 miles, and then did 500 miles without a hiccup. After cleaning the connector, never again, and I've spoken to the bikes new owner and hasn't had an issue, so I guess that was it. Hope this helps
