Hello, I am new here and have read some posts in regards to exhaust upgrades.. the tor doesn't make enough difference to me, I don't like short mufflers... in fact I would love a nice set of fishtail muffler pipes but seems no one makes them.. especially in usa I cant seem to find much of anything for exhaust... would appreciate any comments or help... thanks, Chuck
chuck, you are correct that there are limited choices of mufflers marketed to the Triumph America/Speedmaster line. But we have a rather standard 1&3/4" header pipe connection. And most any aftermarket cruiser muffler can be used. You do have to be a bit creative on a muffler bracket but several of us have done it.
As for a fishtail, Paughco has several variations, look about halfway down the page. http://paughco.com/2008-catalog/indivpages/Harley-Davidson Universal Mufflers From Paughco.html
You can use just about any muffler that has a 1 3/4" ID inlet, you just may need to get creative with rear mounting.
Be sure to re-jet your carbs.
Less back pressure creates a lean condition.
If you don't enrich your fuel mixture your engine will run dangerously hot.
