Hi all, advice please...
My America has been sat in the garage over christmas for the last 3 / 4 weeks. We've had some pretty foul weather. I've just been out to take it out and it doesnt want to start.

I would suspect a flat battery but the problem is the garage roof has leaked and the bikes been sitting in a half inch of rain water, Im guessing it's got thoroughly soaked during the time its been sat there.

On trying to start it. Headlights work, the speedo needle sweeps round on turning the key and the alarm is working. at least it arms and disarms. On pressing the button all I get is a click and then nothing.

Am I right to suspect something more than the battery ? All advice welcome thanks.

Since the battery is easy to get to I suggest that you start with testing the battery by putting it on a charger. My guess is that is at least part of your problem.

THanks again, Im picking up a battery charger tomorrow from a friend so Ill get it charged up and see where we are after that.

efi bikes need well charged batteries.....battery might light up gauges and lights but there is not enough juice for ECU to make engine turn and fire up

Im hoping thats the case. The bike has been sat there for 3 weeks , almost 4 over the christmas period and my first thought was that having left the alarm armed and not run the bike at all had drained the battery. Im hoping this is the case. Everything lights up and works but the starter just clicks - it doesnt even try to turn over - just that heart stopping moment when your baby gets ill! Slightly worried by having discovered that the roof has let the rain in as much as it has But then my last bike (a Kawasaki sport thing) lived outside and never suffered so hoping that the Triumph is just as bullet proof. As I say Im borrowing a charger tomorrow so Ill get the battery on charge over night and see what happens after that - fingers crossed. Will report back after charging

The battery is drained. The alarm uses just a tiny trickle that you wouldn't notice after a few days, but 3 weeks heck yes. Be sure and keep your charger and extension cord off that floor!

Luckily theres no power in the garage so the battery will have to come into the house to charge. Damn alarm, I thought I had disarmed it when I left the bike parked in there before christmas but obviously it re armed itself as it does - thought I had switched that feature off.

I'd invest in a trickle charger if I were you,never mind having to borrow a charger.What if buddy was on holidays.
