Wrecked my speedy !!!!!!
Just crashed my 04 speedy two weeks ago and got the word from my insurance that they are going to total it ! The damage really is not that bad, but they insist on using only new parts and my local dealer must do the work. The damage mainly is the front rim , brakes, brake lever, forks, and a knee sized dent in the tank. They came up with a crazy price of $6500.00 with labor! That's just insanely high !!! I can do the work myself and Ebay all the parts i need for less than $2000.00. My question to you all is ...is it worth keeping it , fixing it, and trying to get it re-registered as a salvage title ? My friends say that here in Pennsylvania, it's a real pain in the rear to get it retitled. It's a tough decision, take the insurance money and buy another bike ( Speedy or maybe a storm) or fix what i already know and love. Any opinions or help with info on the titling thing would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your bike, but the really important thing is that you are OK.
I'm in Ontario, obviously a different jurisdiction, but a "Salvage" title here is the kiss of death as far as resale goes.
That said, if you can buy back your bike from the insurance company really cheap - i.e. the deduct a bit from the payout, it may be worth it to either transfer the parts to a new bike and sell on the rest.

How much is the insurance company gonna give you - $6500 ? - If that's the case, I'd take the money and buy another one or put it toward that Storm !

To echo the words of a famous Steve Miller Band song," ...go on, take the money and run!"
Glad you're well enough to worry about such decisions rather than being layed up with serious injuries. Better luck next time!

$6,500 is more than your bike is worth. How much is the Ins. Company offering you?

I had the same experience with my Bonneville. I bought is back from the insurance company, fixed it myself, and put $4,000 in my pocket. Under Minnesota law it was easy to re title and there is no brand on the title. It's worth looking into.
And sorry about your wreck, that's never fun. Sounds like you're OK though.

I'd take the money too. Once wrecked there cam be damage like bent frame and such you my not know till something doesn't seem right. Take the money and get a newer EFI model. I had a carb speedy and rode a EFI one as a loaner when my Tbird was in for service and the EFI speedy was nice. I much prefer EFI. You may too. Or get a Tbird, but whatever you do i'd go with a new bike.
