The stock shocks on my 2011 America are, as you all know, not very good. Hitting bumps are unpleasant, even when riding solo and having the pre-set at the highest setting. I'm thinking of replacing these with an after market pair. My dealer recommends Progressive Heavy Duty shocks. What kind did you get?
I haven't had a nudge to my ribs or a smack to my back from my pillion since I've installed them, so I guess they're OK.
It may depend on how heavy you are and if you do a lot of 2-up riding. IIRC, Fast Eddy did a write-up on shocks on the BA forums comparing stock, versus the 412's versus the 440's.
Thinking on the same thing, as I have the dreaded worming on the front forks back again I thought as they were being done I might drop some IKON progressive springs in from Norman Hyde (£80) with the rears to follow later (£380).
I'm considering a suspension upgrade on my 2011 speedmaster. British Customs recommended the Hagon 2810 over the Progressives. He told me that the Hagons are actually set up according to weight and ride style. I'm actually considering the higher priced Hagon Nitro shocks tho.
I run icon 7612's on mine and like them alot, progressive 812's on the other, both are much better than the stockers.I find the 812's very smooth and am sure I could adjust the icon 's to run as same, but I don't.
Have an 08 speedmaster , had had Ikons shocks fitted and progressive springs fitted when purchased it last year , have done 8000 ks now and am in process off changing the rear springs , problem was the ride/ shock , the dampening was set to two as per my weight and the pre load was at the lowest setting and it was still killing me lower back , so read up heaps off stories on this site and followed lots off links on how to set up adjust , setting the sag , when all said and done measured mine and with my set up , its set for solo riding no seat , pegs , etc , when i sat on the bike was only getting 13/15 mm sag , when quizzed the technical guy at Ikon Australia , he pointed out that the sag should be around 25mm which is less than a standard bike because the speedmaster shocks are leaning forward so much , Have also purchased some new bars to try and alter my sitting position , will post and let you know the results in a few weeks , cheers
