56...born in '56. Bought a new 1980 750 Bonneville in '80 and rode until 1988. I sold it and didn't ride for 20 years until I bought a new 2008 America after being widowed in '06 and I got the bug again. I have put 22,000 miles on it since then.

I rode a Norton 850 Commando till 1978 then sold it cause I had a young family. I also bought a new 2008 America. Does yours have carbs also? I prefer them. I have 22,000 miles plus on mine. The values were within specks at 12,000. I have not had tem looked at since. DOB 1951

I am now 67, been riding since I was 14. Started with a Cushman Eagle, then a Triumph Scrambler, Vespa, Triumph Bonneville, Honda, restored a 65 Bonneville, Harley Low Rider, Harley Full Dresser and now an America. That's the one's I can remember.

My dealer told me they wait until 18,000 miles for the first valve check. I had it done in April with 18,500 miles and no adjustment was needed. He also changed out the brake fluid. And yes mine has carbs...the last year for them on the America.
My son who is 28 also has a black 2008 America ...2nd one after his first black '08 was totaled after an idiot pulled out in front of him last year. I think he has about 4,000 - 5,000 on this one as it only had about 2,000 on it when he found it in Michigan last Winter. He insisted on another '08 because he wanted carbs.

56 is a good vintage Eastman. Same here. I picked up my 09 Speedmaster (second hand 8000k's) 18 months ago after a 18yr layoff as most of us seem to relate to. You know, family & all. Speedo now just ticked over 21000 yesterday & loving it to bits. Spend most time riding 2 up. Great way to share life experiences with my bride of 30yrs. Actually, spent our 30th honeymoon travelling The Snowy mountains & South Caost NSW here in Oz over 10 days. PERRRRFECT!

Just remember another one. Norton Commando, I think. Once bitten by riding, you never want to give it up.
