about fitting rivco risers on a speedmaster

Hi chaps,

So I bought a pair of rivco risers, and I should be fitting them this coming weekend, work and weather permitting (there's not much space in the garage).

I know it is trivial, but I am "alone" and I need to be sure and confident about the procedure before I set about to actually doing it.

By looking at the parts everything adds up except for the two "snap rings" (similar to these ) to put on the larger screws that will hold the risers to the upper steering head, as per the instructions. There's also a pair of washers for the same screws, so each screw will have one washer and one snap ring.

Question number one: what's the order? Is it riser, steering head, snap ring, washer and screw?
Question number two: what torquing specs should I use? the ones in the instruction sheet or the ones in the triumph service manual (for the OEM risers)?
QUestion number three: blue loctite on the buggers, yes or no?

Thanks in advance!
Pedro.

Sorry Pedro, can't help with the install specs but can you post a pic of the bike when you get the risers installed. I am considering these as well and would love to see them on a bike before I buy...

No worries. Mine aren't on yet. Another user already took the time to photograph these risers on a speedmaster: http://www.triumphrat.net/cruisers-a...ml#post1466006

I'm not a big fan of the chrome thing, I would prefer non shiny material, but I am hoping the difference in riding position will be worth this minor downside.

Cheers,
Pedro.

agree about the chrome..and the hope that it negates that darn ache in my neck with a shorter reach...in the alternative, my local bike shop just quoted me about $530 to switch out to a set of America bars with new cables..ugh....

I mounted - riser, steering head, washer, split washer and bolt.

Here are a couple of shots of them on my bike (sorry about Woolly Bugger in photo):-

Pedro, I have responded to your PM.

A computer word is 16 bits. 2 bits = 1 quarter (25c). 1 bit is 12.5c. A word is worth $2, therefore a picture is worth $2,000. Eugene Volokh

Thanks woolly, for the useful info!

Was there any thread lock on the riser bolts? I could not get mine (OEM) loose. I don't have a breaker bar and my ratchet is only about 20 cm long... I'll get one of the above (longer ratchet or breaker bar) and try again.

Yeap, it's expensive everywhere.
In an UK dealer the bar alone (metal tube) is £85 (+17.5% VAT, I reckon)...

I just installed the Rivco risers on my Speedmaster. All together it took about 2.5 hours and that included dealing with my Memphis Shades windshield which i had to remove and and adjust as I re-installed it. The new position of the handle bar has eased the shoulder ache but I might need a few longer rides to make sure. Hopefully these pics work. I though the pics comparing the old and new riser would help folks see the difference between the two. Please let me know if these don't work. I am still a newbie at trying to link pics.

Got a 24" breaker bar and the nuts are already loose :] but didn't have time to plough through the installation, just testing the bar.

Nice pics! Are you sure your stock risers are stock? IIRC, mine and the rivco are roughly the same height apart from the rivco's pull. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Heya Capt - thanks for the pics. Those are some of the better pics I've seen that actually showed the differences in both risers.
