Dumb TBA / Speedy seat question?

Alright, I can tell Im missing something simple on this one...

I recently purchased a stock Speedmaster seat for my TBA, because I like the styling, and the seating position a little better.

On my initial attempt to install it, I can see that the back pillon screw on the fender will fit just fine. But, the latch mechanism on the middle / bottom of the Speedy seat doesn't seem to fit over the stock bolt that fastens the TBA solo seat in place.

That bolt on the TBA looks like this (minus the engraving), and seems to be 'slotted' exactly for this purpose:

Am I doing something wrong, or do is the Speedy's stock bolt different?

After pulling out my rear pillon from storage, I can see now that the slot in the TBA seat bolt is meant for the pillon installation bracket.

That said, where do I find the bolt necessary to fit the Speedmaster seat latch? Is it something I can pick up from a hardware store, and if so, does anyone know the specs?

Thanks,

-B

Hi your right about them being different the speedy uses a spigot with a horizontal slot for the latch to lock into it bolts over the hole the other one came out of it has a plate that will line up with the holes that are there via two small bolts this would have to be genuine good luck

The seat you bought does it have the latch on it if it does it should have a cable that comes out the left side that would be your latch so if you have that the spigot should cost that much

Its a completly diffrent bolt. Its cone shaped and comes to a point so the seat snaps on to it and is removed by pulling the lever under the left side of the seat. I also bought a speedy seat for my america which I use on occaision and it came with the seat when I bought it used on ebay so I would contact the seller you got it from and tell him that it sould be included with the purchase, being that it is required equipment with the seat. If they give you a hard time I would ask for a return or dispute it depending on where you bought it from. Otherwise go to the dealer and order one, shouldnt be more than a few dollars I hope.

I simply removed the center latch hardware from my speedy seat. The pillion seat bolt is plenty to keep it in place. Makes seat swaps very easy too!

Just be carefull, if that bolt ever comes loose or strips by the threads the next time you lean on a nice turn you might go flying. I dont know how much you weigh but after time that little bolt may not hold up. They make that center bolt for very good reason, it keeps the center of the seat secure without any play so the other bolt doesnt have all the pressure on it. Its pretty much a neccessary part.
