Stock carb diaphragms, seem to have missed one

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I removed the stock carbs off my 07 speedy for some trouble shooting. While I had everything apart I did the following:
1) AI removal kit
2) Removed airbox snorkel
3) Replaced stock air filter with K&N

I eventually got the carbs back in and the bike running however I found one of those small black diaphragms that are covering the various nozzles on the carbs. I've had a look (without taking the carbs back out) and can't find out where it's from.

Could someone tell me how many I would expect to see on a stock carb set up and where they are. The only things to consider are the scottoiler which seems to have a connection to the rear left hand side nozzle (perhaps when the garage fitted it they dropped the original diaphragm into the bike).

The bike is now running well and I seem to have a few more horses though when the choke is fully closed it doesn't feel or sound like I'm getting enough fuel. Whether this is down to the mods and there's just too much air or if it;s something to do with this diaphragm I don't know. Could be due to the near freezing conditions we currently have. I also have some TOR short cut pipes but these have been on for a while.

Are you talking about a vacume cap ? if you have removed the Air Injection you need to replace the vacume hose that you pulled off the carb with a cap , or cut the hose and plug it with a bolt of or screw until you get some caps which run a handful for about a dollar at any auto parts store and also it wouldnt be a good Idea to ride the bike with that cap not in place .

vacuum cap

Hi Americana,

Thanks for the reply. The ai removal was not originally connected to the carbs, it ran into a vacuum nozzle on the manifold left hand side which I have as you stated closed off with the cap supplied in the removal kit.

The only other nozzles I can see at present are:

* Right hand manifold (capped)
* Right hand carb top behind the choke slider (capped)
* Left hand carb behind the choke slider (piped running to scott oiler)
* Left hand carb top (piped running into the right hand carb)

I may have to take the bloody things out again to investigate. I have the haynes manual but the pictures are pretty rubbish. Do you know of any detailed pics of the stock carbs?

One vacuum port on each manifold and one on each carb body. You should have a total of four vacuum caps in play except in your case you're taking off for the oiler so you'll have one cap left over.

I didn't quite get this part, running into where? That's one of the vacuum ports meant to be capped just as the right side is.
