engine guards- Rentec or Triumph
Comments on which engine guards you prefer and why. Consider cost, ease/cost to install. This is for an '09 Speedmaster. I also plan on putting on the Triumph floorboards. Will the Rentec or Rivco engine guards fit w/the boards. Thanks.

If you search around both have been discussed, I have Footboards on on an America and the larger Triumph engine guard on my wifes..as the frames are the same I assume the items are interchangable with the SM.. I really like the boards as they allow movement to keep the legs loose on long rides. There has been some discussion about the larger bar getting in the way of feet of the long legged riders, but as they do not extend very far out than do the exhaust pipes,, I can't see this as any problem.. Heres some pics hope it helps you decide..

Thanks Norm T, I have read that the quality of the Triumph guards is substandard. Others have preferred the Rivco guards but it is unclear whether they are on a Speedmaster. If you think the Triumph guards will do the job and still allow the floorboards to fit, I would be happy with that. Thanks again for the input.

Hi Norm,
Now that I have had my SM for about a month with the boards on(great), I wonder if the guards would really provide anymore protection that the boards would if the bike went down. Any comments. Thanks

I have the square Triumph engine guard on a Speedmaster. The installation was straight forward, and is sturdy. I found fit and finish to be top notch. They don't protrude much beyond the exhaust pipes, leaving the brake and shifter pedals exposed.
I don't have floorboards, but do like the guards that I have. I would have preferred them a little wider though.

I just got mine installed last weekend. I am disappointed how small it is and totally useless to protect the bike when laying down. Not sure who design this, it serves no purpose except add a few pound to the bike. IMO.

The dresser bars are intended to protect the tank in the event of a tipover. They are not "crash guards".

It is so small, I don't think it will protect the tank. I bought it hoping to protect the hand leverages. I was wrong.

Rentec
I do not believe the Rentec guards are available for the America/Speedy, last time I checked.
