Changing Fork Springs Question

I am going to be changing the fork springs on a 2005 America in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the pinch bolts in the top yoke need to be loosen to remove the fork caps?

Can't really tell from the service manual, of course the manual wants you to remove the entire fork to change the springs, but I will be leaving them on the bike.

I've done some bikes in the past where it was necessary and some where it's not.

Thanks, Roy

I put my bike on a lift, to unload the front end. I loosened the top pintch bolt then took off the top cap...not sure if I had to loosened the top pintch bolt..The springs are under compression when you take the top cap off so go slow when removing it

How tight are they now, & how far up is the fork tube above the top tree?

How tight are what?
Per Haynes Manual, top yoke clamp bolts= 20Nm, and fork top bolt (cap)= 23Nm.
My fork tubes are flush with the top yoke. Does that help?
