America vs Speedy hp figures
I was just perusing the Triumph company web site and looked at the 09 motorcycle range. They list the technical specs for the 09 America at 54 hp at 6750 RPM and 51 ft lbs torque at 4600 RPM. The Speedy is shown as 61 hp at 6800 and 55 lbs tq at 3300 RPM. The T-100 is shown at 67 hp and 51 lbs tq. I understand that the Bonnie engine is a bit different than the Speedy and the America, but I thought the America and Speedy were identicle engines.
These are some strange figures for supposedly the same engines. And the manufacturer should have the correct figures listed on their web site, so any idea what gives ?

I know the America and speedy have the same motor but they do not have the same exhaust set up when stock, the speedy has a more aggresive exhaust and the Americas exhaust is more refined when stock. That may be part of it.

Mac,
That could certainly be part of it, but the difference in the stock exhaust couldn't account for about a 15% difference in hp. I'm going to try to contact Triumph and find out. This issue has been discussed a number of times on this forum and the concensus is that they should be the same hp because they're the same engine. If there's a difference between them I want to find out what it is, because I certainly don't want my America to be embarrassed by a Speedy

You cant pay to much mind to what triumph rates the hp at on any of these bikes they tend to fudge numbers as they please, in your case it could be pipes or the way they have the efi tuned on those 2 bikes.Unless they didnt use the same cams in both bikes with a good tune and pipes they should run the same.

Another thing I noticed with my 09 America is the speedometer seems to be a little fast. I was on the highway and riding next to a honda civic which had a didgital dispayed speedometer and was high enough to glance over to read it which was 50 and my America was telling me I was doing 55. When im on the highway doing about 70 to 75 it doesnt feel that im actually going that fast. This is a little strange. I know its off the beaten path of the thread but just food for thought. Back to the original post, seems all the specs are the same for both America and speedy except for the horse power so maybe they just listed it wrong but I would also love to know.

It doesn't really both me if an aftermarket parts supplier or someone on the forum gives incorrect hp for the bike, but when the manufacturer does it bothers me some.

Hmmm, on the Australian Triumph site the figures for the America & Speedie are the same - 61hp @ 6800rpm & 55ft/lb @ 3300rpm. Go figure

Yes,but down there the crank shafts turn counter-clockwise, so everything is different. Actually I think somebody just screwed up and everyone else just copies and pastes (sp?) without really checking things out.

It does if they're claiming an increase in hp due to their product!

Dave, I agree, but that's not where the figures are coming from. It's the stock figures that are screwy.
