Speedy Seat Rail Install Help

I have recently purchased a single seat, seat rail and a seat rack for my Speedy (2009 model). All arrived safely and went to install only to find that the instructions were for an America. No problem I thought, continue anyway. Only problem is that the slotted bolt provided with the Seat Rack does not allow the seat rail to be installed at the same time.

Is there another bolt with a more appropriate fastener required to fix all three (seat, seat rail and seat rack) to the bike, or is it not possible to mount seat rail and rack same time?

A computer word is 16 bits. 2 bits = 1 quarter (25c). 1 bit is 12.5c. A word is worth $2, therefore a picture is worth $2,000. Eugene Volokh

I have found out that the bolt i need is a M8 x 20. Is there one of these with a Alan key fastener instead of Hex available? My local Triumph dealer did not think that these were available.

Interestingly the install instruction (which are for an America) for the Seat Rail suggest using the front seat bolt which is Hex. This does not fit with the seat rail.

Any advice on how to fasten the rear seat rail would be appreciated.

M8 x 20mm allen-head bolts are easily available (I have a pack of 6 that I bought from Bunnings a few months back for about$7 - might be M8 x 25mm, come to think of it, but they should still work fine). The head is about 8mm high and quite narrow - only about 6-7mm, so it would stand out quite a bit. You'd probably want something with a broader, flatter head. I know they are available because I saw one holding a solo seat on the Speedmaster demo bike I rode this morning at Lloyd Chapman's (one of Perth's 2 Triumph dealers)

Thx antman, i'll get straight up to Bunnings this morning. I figured they would possibly have what I needed. I am surprised that these are not supplied with the rail as even the seat bolt for the America would probably not fit either as I assume it has a hex head.

BTW, just looking for a Speedy or just browsing the bikes?

Ok fixed it. As antman suggested, went to local hardware store and purchased a suitable M8 bolt with Alan key. Looks just like this:-

In the process of buying an '05 from Adelaide. Should know within the next 24 hours whether it's a goer. Then it's another 2 - 3 weeks to get it accross to Perth.

Good luck with the purchase. I did a similar thing purchasing from a Sunshine Coast dealer and having them ship to Sydney. Worked out ok, although I only had a week delay. That damn Nullarbor Plain!
