A question for the Aussies regarding TORs

I'm looking at buying a Speedy from interstate, which has the long TORs fitted. I'll need to put it over the pits to have it registered locally when I get it home. Does anyone have any experience with getting these pipes past the roadworthiness inspectors, especially in WA, where I live? Anyone heard any good/horror stories?

Both local dealers said they don't expect problems but one also said it was really pot luck. He also said that he had a pile of standard pipes sitting around because everyone wants their new bike delivered with better sounding pipes and I could have a pair cheap if I had any problems.

Hey antman, If you can get a standard pair really cheap. Put them on and go over the pits and when it's all okay put the Tors back on.
Problem solved and no need to worry about anything.

Yeah, that would be the easiest way to do it but I'm already stretching the Financial Controller's good will enough with the bike and transport costs, so it'd be nice to avoid having to spend another couple of hundred.

Some one will have the originals around that they will surely lend. Any Triumph bike clubs around your way? I have a set you could borrow but I am in NSW

Try some other bike clubs like Ulysses or the like.

And at worse try getting them passed with the TORS fitted, they are not loud and would probably not get noticed. Good luck

I'd try getting it passed with the TOR's on first as they really aren't that loud compared to say a Harley.
If your wanting a quick and nasty fix, just ball up some steel wool and push it up into the pipes (not so far you can't get it out), and pack more until you get the desired volume. Just be careful not to create too much back pressure.

The biggest problem you may have is if the guy/gal doing the checking bothers to read "for off road use " stamped on them

Thanks Hudsonian and Ian.

I'm in Perth, not in the Southwest (well, not THAT far into the southwest, unfortunately).

Ian, if I have any problems, I'll probably contact you. I'll probably go to the Midland licencing centre since the transport depot is in Hazelmere.
