When I'm out and about I put a disk lock on sometimes a chain, being honest though in this day and age if they want the bike they just pick it up and put it in a van.
Bike alarm will often cost around the £400 mark and you may get £20/£30 off your insurance, takes a long time before you get your moneys worth back, I don't bother with an alarm these days.
Alarm and make safe your garage/shed that's your best chanec of keeping it safe.

Just for a light security alarm when you are at a restaurant or taking a leak I have a toggle switch on my top rear motor mount that I can reach under and flip casually while getting off the bike. I have a mercury tilt switch under my seat and with these to my horn, you can't take the bike off the kickstand without the horn blowing. Good for short distance secuity and only a couple hours and a few bucks.

Hi BC
I try to keep the bike in view as much poss, as your touring people can't moniter your daily movements.
Parking overnite a good chain and lock wrapped round a post will put most people off, or like Normandy says, some sort of imobaliser will help.

I been looking on the internet and come across a chain that can't be cut with bolt-cuters, they say it's the best chain there is. it's from a company called http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ there video looks impressive.Triumph have there own immobilizer.Like the idea of the mercury switch.
