Please post pictures.

Not sure how the unit functions. Does it just lock the twist grip in one position?

Yep, just a basic squeeze lock. http://www.casporttouring.com/thestore/prods/16022.html

This pic shows the unit. I'll get the pics up next week. I should have all the bolt specs too. Since the handlebar controls on the America/Speedmaster are long you can't get a cheap ($30 ish) Vista-cruise type unit to fit. That leave you with the bar end lock for about $85, the "slide the control down on the throttle and bar end to make it bind" free trick, the BrakeAway for about $200 (ouch!) or the Rostra electronic cruise control for about $200. At least this is true cruise control. I plan on this addition after my trip this weekend.

The Vista Cruise can work fine on the Speedmaster/America with a tad bit of work. Yes, the control/switch assy IS too long/big for the supplied anchor bar to work, but there is a way. What I did was to make a custom anchor bar from 1/8 inch flat steel that connects between the Vista Cruise and a screw on the switch assembly. If I remember correctly, it was approx. 1 7/8 inches long and I formed it on my grinder to go around the throttle cable hardware. I am ordering a Vista Cruise for my 09 Speedy, and will be attaching it in a like manner. I'll take pics and post them if anyone is interested. Just let me know.

I think this is the way I am going too. I'm not ready for this yet as I have heated gear connections and controls, as well as GPS and MP3 mounts to make and wire.

Bump from the dungeon.

Any completed projects? 03cruiser or doclees, can you post some pics and explain what had to be done to make this work?

Forgot all about this. I'll try today to get them up. I got to remove it to clean up the rust on the metal parts I ground down. For some reason I don't get email notifications when someone adds to these threads.

Here are some pics. I'll upload the others next. Got most everything at Ace hardware. I had to grind down the female coupler to fit and not scratch the controls. What I didn't shoot is the stud under the coupler. Just find one the same thread length as the stock bolt and add about 1/2 the coupler length. After fitting and testing function I used locktite on the studs to the coupler. I also that mounting the thumb lock opposite as shown lock the throttle closer to your desired setting and fine tunes better.

That answers two questions. First, I had looked at it as trying to get around the factory parts. You actually used the existing parts to anchor the mount. Then, I was thinking that the unit would slip between the grip and the housing, not over the grip itself.

The only question I have at this point is whether or not the cruise takes up valuable real estate on the grip itself or if the grip seems long enough that it isn't intrusive.

Nice job sir!
