Tach Problem

After riding my tack doesn't reset to zero. The next time I ride it works but at a higher rpm. If it was reading 1k off then it reads 1k above normal rpm. From the sound I can tell it isn't running at such a high rpm. I've had it read as much as 5k over. To reset it i leave the key on and drain the voltage from the tack system by turning the kill switch off and on.

Now for the question. Any ideas what causes this?

I rechecked wires for connection and ground but came up empty.

This has been mentioned several times on this forum and others.

You can try a search, but I don't think anybody's repaired theirs. The only fix I know is have the dealer replace it. Seems it's the new ones that are glitching.

Yeah mine's done that from new (bought in May 09).

The dealer said they will replace it under warranty, I just haven't got around to getting it done.

Easiest way to reset....

Turn the ignition on, turn off - needle drops by 500rpm, turn back on, turn off, etc. - Much better than leaving switched on.

Mine is stuck at 1000. I am waiting on a replacement under warranty.

Exact same thing happened to me - I am having it replaced this weekend. The workaround is to flick the kill switch, as noted in a previous post. My dealer suggested doing that before you start up, rather than right after you stop the engine, as the computer saves engine info from the ride, and doing it right after you stop the engine clears that info.

I wonder when Triumph will put out a recall on the tacho. Chased my dealer up as still waiting for replacement. He reckons he has 2 others waiting.

I was lucky then. When I took mine in, they were going to have to order a new tach. I'd have to wait a couple weeks, then go back to get it replaced. The gal looked around and they had a new "accessory" tach on a shelf and just used that one and figured when the replacement came in, they'd sell that one as the accessory. Saved me a trip and it was fixed right away. Kudos to Triumph Detroit! :
