Same here as the good doctor, asked about break in (have owned some past bikes that "required" it) and was told to ride in normally, nothing special other than "no droning along" i.e. steady engine speeds.

I just picked up my Thruxton last weekend and have a dealer scheduled appointment in a couple weeks for the 500 mile oil change and adjustments. How necessary is this appointment if I'm able to change the oil myself? Not sure on the adjustments they mention?

Do it yourself. Change the oil and filter, and perhaps sync the carbs. I don't believe they do anything special.

After run-in it will need carbs synced big time!
Pay the dealer and get the professional service.
If you have a warranty problem later and can't show you had it serviced by an authorised dealer.........you are gonna have a hard time. :hammer:

IRRC, I believe in the USA, it is illegal to make someone have the dealer do the service in order to maintain the warranty. As that is just extortion in my opinion.

I don't know about the law regarding this, but ask your dealer. Mine is perfectly ok with me doing my own servicing, I keep track of it by reciepts & writing mileage down in the manual.

Whatsit,

I noticed you are from Bolder, Nevada. Is Findlay Motors of Henderson your dealer? I just purchased a Thruxton from them and they seemed to be most agreeable to do business with. My bike is ready for the first servicing and I plan to do it all myself if possible.
