I am really not sure about the 140 but the 120 comes pretty ok for a classic bike

I am trying to find a way to mount my camera on the bike...after that you will see by yourselves that the bike goes down to 130 with no flyscreen or something.it will be uploaded on youtube!no reason to lie my friends

Poseidonas, I suspect you are right in saying that the speedo indicated 140 . Don't beleive for a secund that a Thrux will do much more than 110 without a bbk or bigger carbs. The speedo really is only letting you know you are in fact moving so you don't get off the bike before you stop. This is made worse if you changed the profile of the front tire.
Having said all this, the Thrux does do well and can hold it's own in many cases.

It's best if you never ask for verification of your speed. My old CL250 scrambler used to show an indicated 105 MPH. I thought I was really flying until I had someone follow with a car and found out it did about 80!

All that being said.
which is better.

Thinking you did 140?
or
Knowing you are doing 80 but the speedo says 110?

or
Thinking...and shouting out loud
"Speedo be ****ed I Love this bike!!!"

...as you glance over...
...flashing blue and red lights vibrating in the rearview mirror.... getting close and closer and closer.

Then to discover your throttle is fully engaged. No more juice
Game over.
Reality check.
Just don't tell the LEO that your speedo said 110.
Simply ask what he clocked you at.
You shall then be enlightened, Grass hopper, in your quest for the truth you search for .... Speeeed.
Schwing!!

Yeeeee-Haaaa

There you go -- that's one way to find out the truth.

Given the Thruxton's optimistic speedo, if you are only going an indicated 110, the LEO is probably passing you to get to the speeder up front.

Mine's a steady 10% high; gotta go at least 110 to be near the ton.

I have no idea how accurate my speedo is, but in a tight tuck on a very flat road, I touched 120. I didn't hang there long, but it felt like it might inch up a wee bit faster. Maybe 125, tops. The wind at that speed is unreal, even tucked. These aren't the most aerodynamic bikes out there.

I wonder if 140 is possible on an extended (and I mean very extended) downhill? Probably not.

And for the record, I wouldn't drag a Vstrom 650 for pinks.

140 might be possible with a big bore kit, racing carbs, a lot of time tweaking on a dyno and a big aerodynamic fairing...

I have an 07 speedmaster with bubs pipes. rejetted mains and the needle shimmed. I have burried the needle (120) on a number of occasions. actual road speed of 115 or so. I have never tried anything further but it feels as though it would have at LEAST a tiny bit more.

I also owned a dl650......2004....Unless they drastically changed them, they will get 60hp to the rear wheel....the torque is only at about 45.

The last dyno I got on my bike resulted in 55ftlbs and about 53 or so hp. That was last year and the jetting was HORRIBLY off.

btw-the sv and dl are set up a bit differently. Stock sv650 is about 70 hp and about 48 ft lbs....that's on a good day though.

The dl1000 would probably smoke ya but the dl650---not by much if at all.....our torque curves are quite linear....AND the thruxton makes more HP then the speedmaster.

the sv650 (or vstrom 650) weighs ~100 lbs lighter than the bonnie and makes 70hp stock. Smoked.

Sorry Jeff, but I've got to contradict you on this one. I've got a V-Strom 650. It might be able to keep up with a stock Thruxton, maybe even pull ahead slightly, but could definitely not smoke one. And it would get smoked itself by a well-modded Bonnie like yours.

Reason being that the frame and the engine are not the same as an SV650's. It doesn't have the SV's quasi-trellis-style frame, and while the engine is based on the SV mill, it's got some significant internal differences and has been "retuned" (ie, it's weaker). My Strom was factory-dynoed at 62hp. Also, the Strom weighs about the same dry as a Bonnie or Thruxton.

But yes, a V-Strom 1000 should be able to smoke a Thruxton. Maybe the rider just didn't feel like racing.

I have a pretty strong Stage 1 Thrux, Preds, no AI, no airbox, K&Ns, cleaned up inlet tract.
IMHO, it wouldn't do 130 if you pushed it off a cliff, let alone 140.
My speedo is hilariously inaccurate above 80 MPH, as much as 15 MPH optimistic, so I installed a $25 bicycle speedo;
http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/257
Confirmed it with a GPS. I was careful with my tire circumference measurement, and it was within 1-2 MPH.
Fully tucked, I got it up to 120, where it may have had a little guts left (I didn't, running out of road), but it didn't have 10-20 MPH left.
I regard the Thrux as perfectly optimized for 0-100 MPH real-world riding, and, as I have no need to prove anything to anyone regarding my intrepidity or testosterone level, that's plenty. I mention this as I have heard Harley and high-speed Sportbike guys implying such a connection, regarding Motorcycle size or speed.
